Circus Envy are a rootsy five piece based in East Yorkshire, with a sound equally influenced by classic rock, folk rock and Americana.
Diverting from the mainstream by using instrumentation as exotic as the cajon, and the bouzouki, Circus Envy delight audiences when playing both electrically and acoustically, building on the strengths of each to create a subtly different, organic sound every time.
The release of the band’s debut Album “Take Me Home” in October 2008 brought rave reviews with interest both locally and nationally in both the printed press and on commercial radio.
“Debut album ‘Take Me Home’ showcases soaring, heartfelt vocals and impressive skills on the bouzouki. It also has some damn fine tunes” (Bearded Magazine Feb, 2009)
Live performances on KCFM’s The Crown Jules Rock Show and BBC Radio Humberside put the band’s considerable talent on display proving a hit with listeners.
Since October 2008 a different track from the album has appeared each month in the Hull Vibe monthly MP3 chart. The band have never been out of the top 3, finishing at Number 1 an impressive 4 times. Circus Envy have pushed themselves forward into the limelight as a band destined for great things.
2009 sees Circus Envy performing on the Acoustic Treasures showcase tour organised by the prestigious and internationally known Beverley Folk Festival followed by a number of independent gigs around the country.
Watch out for the Circus Envy “Travelling CDs”. This novel idea has a selection of the band’s tracks on a CD that then travels the world. Each CD has a unique number which the finder inputs at the Travelling CD webpage, detailing where it was found and any comments on the music. The finder is then encouraged to leave it for someone else to find and watch as the CD travels via the interactive map. With CD’s turning up in America, Holland, France, Italy and Germany amongst others it’s good fun and shameless promotion in one!
