Report: August 2009 In the late 80's and mid 90's Seattle USA produced a music scene which took the world by storm. Years later music has gone full circle and NOW a new thriving music scene in the UNITED KINGDOM is Erupting.
I'm Nick J.Townsend of WEAK13, also an underground music journalist, columnist and radio show presenter. For the last 6 months bands and crowds are flocking to a place called Stourbridge in England. Venues there are opening doors to bands. Music engineers, promoters, small labels, Bands and music fans are going to Stourbridge. One of the next big nights there has LAST UNDER THE SUN, THE ROCKET DOLLS, MASTER WARBEAST & WPAPPED IN PLASTIC all playing at BASE STUDIOS on FRIDAY AUGUST 28TH. The venue can be found on www.basestudios1.co.uk I'll be there offering radioplay to bands that need it.
The radio show can be heard here http://www.basementsound.co.uk/radio/BSRadio.php I plug bands from Brazil, Portugal, Sweden, USA, Australia, UK. Get on the show and contact producer 'Murph' on team@basementsound.co.uk
I grew up with some of the best music in the world and 15 years later only now am I starting to hear original bands make good music again. The venues are now becoming full again. This may never happen again for another 15 years. Now is the time. People will decide what music will be popular in the S'bridge scene. Seattle had grunge. Which genre will get big first?
"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff
Well I'm based around mid wales at the moment, but next year I'm going traveling and when I come back the plan is to move and be based in Sheffield.. I hope. I'm actually writing acoustic music and that's the direction I'd like to take but when you have a suitable loop its so easy and fun! Keep up the good work x
Hello to the circus of invention! Saw you guys last year at Square and I've been a fan since :) Congratulations with landing a slot in glasto, that's well cool! How'd you manage that? Was it a good one this year? Muchos love, Perryx
