Parlo di me

Chi sono:

Communities In Schools helps children achieve academic success by meeting needs that might otherwise get overlooked. We work closely with school districts and social service agencies to solve problems that have a serious impact on a child’s chances for success. The help we provide can be as simple as providing eyeglasses or shoes to a child in need or as intensive as one-on-one tutoring—our approach is individualized to the child. We also have a great team. We’re a part of the nationwide CIS movement—our network structure encourages collaboration, and the sharing of cutting-edge ideas and best practices from around the country.

Mi piacerebbe conoscere:

We want to meet you! You can help kids in need achieve their potential. We offer a variety of opportunities that allow you to join us in this critical mission. Volunteer, Contribute and become an Advocate. We need volunteer mentors and tutors to work with all ages of children. Research shows that the single most important factor in whether or not a child “makes it” is the involvement of a caring adult. You can be that adult by volunteering just one hour a week with Communities In Schools. Due to high demand and limited funding, CIS is able to serve only a portion of the at-risk student population in Washington. The need for CIS services is much greater than the financial ability to provide services. We depend on your support to help more children stay in school. Communities In Schools looks to local businesses to provide strong support for our work. We understand the profound link between a healthy workforce and the development of our youth who are most in need. Your business can provide valuable support by becoming a CIS partner or through a corporate donation. Visit ciswa.org and start making a change today!

Come and celebrate the grand opening of Regal Cinemas at Northgate Mall. Stop by on May 20th for “KING 5 Family Day at Regal,” and enjoy $2 ticket prices and refreshments all day! The best part is that all proceeds will go to benefit Communities In Schools of Washington, helping kids across the state get the care and help they need – when they need it.

Communities In Schools would like to thank KING 5 and Regal Cinemas for the help and contributions, and hopes to see everyone enjoying themselves with some popcorn, a drink and a movie on May 20th!

To thrive, children need access to the basics—adult guidance, help with homework, proper nutrition and preventative health care. But many kids lack these essentials, often causing them to fall behind their peers. This can set a pattern of disengagement that continues throughout their schooling and is one of the leading factors that contributes to a child dropping out of school.

At Communities In Schools, we focus on meeting these core needs—needs that can be overlooked by schools and traditional support programs. We work closely with local school districts, social service organizations and businesses to connect kids with the resources that facilitate academic success and the development of important life skills. Children are individuals with very individualized needs. CIS responds quickly, on a case-by-case basis, and gets kids the things they need to learn and to grow into contributing members of our communities.

In Washington, CIS focuses on four core areas:

Individualized Intervention: Sometimes the most effective way to help a child is to provide for specific needs on an individualized basis. Often a one-time intervention can yield big results.

Mentoring and Tutoring: Students need the confidence to succeed and the belief that education creates opportunity. CIS recruits and trains volunteers
to work one-on-one with kids to help them build confidence and form
    positive attitudes.

Family Assistance: Families don’t always have access to the help they need. Help exists but systems can be overwhelming and inaccessible after work hours. We connect parents with a host of services so their kids can focus
    on learning.

After School Programs: We coordinate after-school programs so kids can get help with their homework, learn about nutrition and get individualized attention. We create places where children can thrive.
