Our mission is to empower the residents of East L.A., by improving the community, social, economic, educational, and structural resources and general welfare through advocacy and civic engagement.
Reasons to Incorporate
..Local Control:
Currently, East L.A. is unincorporated which means that at the local level we are only directly served by just one county official, Gloria Molina, who represents 2 MILLION residents. Cityhood will give residents the power to elect and have direct access to officials whose only concern would be the needs of East Los Angeles residents.
..Local Tax Revenue will stay LOCAL!!!:
Some of the tax revenue that originates from East L.A. is actually distributed to other unincorporated parts in Los Angeles county.

About me: Considered by many as the cultural, social, and political focal point of the Mexican-American community in the United States, the 150,000 residents of unincorporated East Los Angeles are ready for cityhood. http://www.cityhoodforeastla.org
With the support of community leaders, residents, business associations, and elected officials, the East Los Angeles Cityhood Committee is organizing support and enlisting volunteers to incorporate East LA as a city. Currently, residents have no city government, which would provide vital services, local representation, and a voice for community concerns.
To achieve this goal we need YOUR support! To place the cityhood measure on the ballot, we will be collecting signatures from over 25% of registered voters. Help this historic effort by joining our volunteer committee:

Who I'd like to meet: We would like to meet East L.A. residents who are interested in taking the next step towards a better future.
In order to have nice Art centers we need a lot of revenue. The few times I have gone to the starbucks I noticed that many of the customers are from other cities. Once we become a city this kind of activity is good because it will lure them to shop at our local business or even filling up at our gas stations. This revenue will then be redistributed on programs well needed by the community.
La neta. How does having a Starbucks constitute a Cultural Renaissance in East Los? Can anyone justify this? Seems like a great PR stunt by the coffee chain to show they give a damn (though you know they're closing 600 stores nationwide, right?) I doubt this is what Mr. Palacios (or the 60s spirit) had in mind when East L.A. started its great but challenging path back to greatness. Someone wake me up when we've opened up Art centers and more community hospitals. Until then, you can get your Pumpkin Spice Venti Latte to go (like that lady on the CBS video)
In todays L.A. Times (10/17/2007), in the California section, theres a good article of how East L.A. is financially ready, everyone should check it out.
