With the combined talents of ex members of Kill II This, Dearly Beheaded, Xentrix, Blaze and Paradise Lost, City of God has an impressive pedigree but this is a band pushing itself beyond past achievements.
The band came together in Manchester in the summer of 2004, focussing their energies on creating a dark sound whilst standing apart from the mainstream of current heavy music.
The result is the incendiary debut album, "A New Spiritual Mountain." Produced by guitarist Mark Mynett the album displays wide ranging influences and moves seamlessly between ballistic brutal assault and strong melodic passages. There are moments of tranquil beauty juxtaposed with blistering noise, giving City of God a sound quite unlike anything else. But in the end, and this is where the band's true strength lies, it's all about great riffs, great vocal lines and fantastic songs.
