Chris Biggs - Drums
“Wanted: Bass and drums for original music.” Looking to round out a band, Patrick Gilmour and Mike Swanson placed an advertisement in a local newspaper. John Procyk and Chris Biggs replied and City Vox was born - a committed, Edmonton based band that plays original pop-rock music
City Vox has influences ranging from The Police, Mobile and The Fray to Radiohead and Coldplay. Just imagine Bono singing with the creative songwriting of Tom Yorke of Radiohead, David Gilmour of Pink Floyd on lead guitar, John "Bonzo" Bohnam of Led Zepplin on Drums and Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on Bass. Wouldn't that be cool? Absolutley!
After forming, City Vox rehearsed for several months until they were confident enough to enter the studio to record their first demo track titled, “I Am Waiting.” After positive feedback from those who heard the track, they returned to the studio to record three additional tracks: “Fire in Me”, “Ride”, and “Truth”. During this time, they had assembled enough original material for their first live performance, which took place at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton.
Since then, City Vox has played shows at the following venues in Edmonton: The Sidetrack Cafe, The Urban Lounge, The One on Whyte, The Starlite Room, The Haven Social Club, The Rendezvous Pub, Eddie Shorts, The Docks and The Blind Pig. They've opened up for Bobby Cameron and have headlined the rest to date. City Vox has also made regular visits to Banff to play at the Rose and Crown.
In 2008 City Vox was the sole performer for the Alberta Winter Games in Leduc.
City Vox has been on regular rotation at Radio Enigma since December 2006 (www.radioenigma.com) and was recently picked up by Radio Ugly (www.radiougly.com). City Vox was also included in a compilation CD of New Canadian Music called Tea Volume 12 which is produced out of Toronto by a company called Tea South. The CD features "16 Years" by City Vox and was released on July 1st, 2008. Already the album has seen light to heavy rotation on radio stations across Canada.
You can access City Vox's music from their website, www.cityvox.ca or at their myspace page, www.myspace.com/cityvox or their sonicbids page, www.sonicbids.com/cityvox. Of course these websites are complete with bios, lyrics, pictures, music, tour dates, blogs, and - newly added - video.
City Vox is comprised of Patrick Gilmour (Lead Vocals and Rhythm Guitar), Mike Swanson (Lead Guitar and Backing Vocals), John Procyk (Bass), and Chris Biggs (Percussion). Patrick’s natural vocal talent was accentuated by three years of study in the vocal performance and composition programs at Grant MacEwan College. Similarly, John and Chris were trained in Grant MacEwan’s music program in the bass and percussion programs, respectively. The odd man out in this respect is Mike, whose training came in the form of private piano and guitar lessons from an early age. All members of City Vox are talented, inspired, and committed musicians who practice individually on a regular basis, and several times per week as a band.
As a band, City Vox is dedicated to expanding their audience, both locally in Edmonton, as well as provincially and beyond. In this regard, they have and will continue to refine their live show and persist in honing their skills in the studio, with their ultimate goal to more passionately convey their inspiration to audiences and quit working day jobs.
City Vox is currently mixing their first CD and expects to be releasing it in December.
