Glenn Vignolo - Vocals/12&6 string guitars/Harmonica

Glenn Vignolo was coached by his sister to enter the 2nd grade school talent show He sang for my first audience of 300 people, and was addicted. He took on various talent shows and choirs, worked on his vocal ability, and at 12 was introduced to two things that set him on his path: ”The Beatles” and the guitar. He had already been writing poetry for a few years, so the idea of putting music to the poems intrigued him. He taught himself, and eventually became dissatisfied with lead guitarists who it seemed more interested in the “hair metal” bands. He began crafting a melodic sound, inspired by Eric Clapton. He took matters (and a Fender Stratocaster) into his own hands and became a lead guitarist.
He wrote “Pale” in 1991, and made a primitive demo on which he played all instruments. He developed his arrangement and instrumentation. Then Crosby, Stills, and Nash and the production and songwriting of Electric Light Orchestra became another part of the foundation he built his world upon, and the heartbreak and longing in Roy Orbison’s voice inspired him to pour out his own feelings.
In 1994, he acquired a four-track recorder and began demos for what went on to become Civilized Natives. The sounds of the Beatles, ELO, Crosby Stills and Nash, and Eric Clapton’s guitar came together to form a new sound all it’s own. This rock and roll heartbeat is built on the dreams of a 12 year old boy who found in the Beatles the inspiration to strap on an electric guitar, step into the spotlight, and sing what his heart told him to.
Musical Influences:
The Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, Electric Light Orchestra, Roy Orbison and Eric Clapton

Therese (Florian) Vignolo - Vocals /Perc./Acoustic Guitar
___________________________
Therese started singing at the tender age of four when her Great Uncle, Father John Licari requested that she sing for the celebrities at St Anne’s Round Up in Pensacola. She then performed in talent shows, fund raisers and in school plays. She then began listening to Phil Collins and The Bee Gees, where she refined production and craft. At age 13 she sang Schubert’s “Ave Maria”. She then took the club scene and sang with many artists including her Uncle, John Licari. She was influenced by Patsy Cline, who gave her a sense of the dramatic in music. She also heard Celine Dion whose vocal power helped her find her own voice. She then crossed paths with childhood friend, Glenn Vignolo. Together, their voices fit like a glove. He played Civilized Natives music and she fell in love. They started duo shows up until the point she was invited into the band. On August 12th, 2000 Therese and Glenn were married. Therese's power and soulful, gutsy growl, coupled with an ethereal quality that makes her unique among singers, bring brings versatility, experience, and zeal to her craft.
Musical Influences:
Phil Collins, Celine Dion, Roy Orbison, K.D. Lang, Patsy Cline, The Beatles, The Bee Gees and Vince Gill.

Mark Miller- Song writer/Guitar/Vocals/Keyboard/Misellaneous!
____________________________
Mark Miller is a force to be reckoned with. He is one of few men that could actually have a winning duel with any bass player NEAR OR FAR! There IS NO ONE like Mark Miller on Bass. Mark can play just about any instrument he dedicates himself to. His style of playing is extremely over looked, under appreciated, and loved by all of us. Mark has been playing music since he was born...almost literally! He has a love for "good" music. Glenn and Mark have known each other for more than a decade, and the bond they have maintained is a bond we now all share with Mark. We will write more here from Marks' perspective soon, but for now, I think calling him the most armed musician in the Southeastern region of the United States Pretty much sums it up!
Mark enjoys the sounds of: Tom Petty, Kirsty Maccoll, The Beatles, The Doors, and many other diverse and interesting musicians.
Favorite Quote we have heard thus far: "Aw, F**k it..(and laughter insues)"

Robert Hammac- Song writer/Vocals/Percussion/Congas

Robert started singing harmonies with records at the age of five. Elton John and The Beatles were his first memorable influences as a boy. His parents influencesd him as well with the sounds of Motown and other legends. After his mother caught him singing into the end of the vacuum cleaner she knew his destiny. He was part of one of the first karaoke venues that started in Pensacola in the early 90's called "OH Karaoke," owned by Mr. Fred Hayes. He used to sing with his friends out at the Seashell on the boardwalk because Mr. hayes thought "it would draw people in." In school he was with Escambians and PJC Chorus group. The first time he performed in front of 200 people, he was hooked. He has since become a prolific songwriter.
Musical Influences: The Beatles, The Scissor sisters, K.D. Lang, Roy Orbison, George O'dowd, Billy Joel, Beck, Bjork, Radiohead, Marvin gaye, Nat King Cole, George Michael, Elton John and Queen.

Greg Fink- Bass/Banjo/Various
____________________________
Greg has an inifinity for Bass. There is NO ONE who gets more excited than Greg when he is playing, and the groove is just right. He comes from a musically and politically inclined family. His brother, Wil Fink is a well known local musician, and they both are a hurricane of entertainment when they play together, or play with anyone for that matter. Like all of our musical family members, Greg is a valued player in the game, and his friendship and musicianship are one of a kind. No one can miss his energy as he hops up and down on the stage, and brings a vitality to a performance that is filled with the love and enjoyment that is a critical ingrediant to a band that wants to excite, ignite, and entertain! His unstoppable banjo picking is a secret weapon that when unleashed, creates a refreshing and unmatchable living art that cannot be denied.

*Civilized Natives were founded by Glenn Vignolo in 1994 and are, 13 years later, a vital group distilled to its essence and a Pensacola institution. They are an award winning band with a nationally released CD, Closing In. Released in spring of 2000, Closing In features track after track of hook laden songs featuring the vocal and instrumental performances that are a hallmark of Civilized Natives. The group’s live performance features a set list culled from the last 50 plus years of Rock and Roll. Songs from the Beatles, Alanis Morissette, Chuck Berry, Evanescence, Janis Joplin, Bob Seeger, The Eurhythmics, Eric Clapton, Fastball and Roy Orbison stand side by side in a dynamic performance that recalls Rock’s past and looks to its glorious future.

*The Natives are capable of producing the complex choral and instrumental arrangements from Closing In in a live setting even as a trio. It is our intention to play anywhere and everywhere we can and build a fan base that will eventually help us quit our day jobs. We look to the future with hope that our sound which is new, yet familiar, will be the right sound at the right time to garner airplay and to further our careers as songwriters and recording artists. Our purpose musically is to bring back production values, song craft and a sense of grandeur and emotion to a music scene filled with cookie cutter boy bands and American Idol contestants. Along the way, we’d like to leave people who see us live with the feeling that they witnessed a rock event. It is our hope that people come away with the knowledge that we love, live, and breathe the music. In the case of some, our music has already become part of the soundtrack of their lives. For that we are eternally grateful. Read More in the ABOUT the BAND section of our BLOG!
