I got my first guitar when I was 12 years old. It was a present from my grandmother who then taught me how to play. However, the desire to learn more burned bright, and I was lucky enough to find a teacher in the neighboring town.
There I found other musicians, and soon after that I formed my first band. In the beginning we were doing covers songs, but later I started writing my own tunes. We played the local bars and at parties and quickly we became local ‘heroes’.
Like all other small-town-kids, we headed for the big city once we were old enough to move away from home. In the city, things were a lot different than we had anticipated. We were no longer the favorite band, suddenly finding ourselves only one out of many bands fighting for attention. The competition was tough, and although we found more places to play than there were back home, we rarely earned more than just enough to cover our expenses.
The key was to get a record contract, and to release a record, in order to get the ‘good’ jobs. We had to work a day job in order to make a living, and at the same time save enough money to make our first demo. The test proved too hard for the band, and subsequently the band broke up.
I continued writing songs while trying to form another band, and ended up buying a studio with a couple musicians that I had started working with. We recorded other artists and tried to run it as a business, but paying customers were few and far between, so more often than not we would use it to experiment with our own music.
Although I made some decent sounding demos, I still didn’t seem to be able to land a record deal. I was playing all kinds of gigs with some of the guys from the studio. We played at weddings, school proms, and small business parties. We played original material, but took on jobs that normally only cover bands would take. It was a lot of fun, but also frustrating to constantly get requests for cover songs.
Still without a record contract, I steadily grew more tired of the music scene and decided to concentrate on writing songs for other artists. I hooked up with an old friend of mine, Maurice Hawksworth, who at the time was working for Mega Records (a label who featured both Ace of Base and Laila K ) , and started working on songs for Solvej Sanders album, which featured a number 1 hit in Japan.
I had the opportunity live in United States for a period of three years. In New York I met R@ and Chris and the trio 'Flash-back-puppy' was born. Together we wrote a few songs and did a few gigs in Manhattan.
Currently I am writing and recording songs in collaboration with other artists both in Copenhagen, Denmark, and in New York City, USA. My goal is to spread my music as far and wide as possible through performance and CD sales. I also aim to sell or license these songs to already established recording artists to re-record, and to assist in any way possible with the production and further material development.
