Interests

  • General

    Astrology, mythology, politics, ecology, cooking, music esp traditional and folk.
  • Music

    Traditional and folk, classical, also anything which makes a glorious racket. Lots of stuff I hear casually, but haven't listed to mainstream music for so long that I'm really out of touch so I don't know what half of it is.

    Most of the music I listen to comes from Russ Chandler, the perils of being a musician's wife I suppose.

    Anything which turns up at Walthamstow Folk.

    I also have little choice than to listen to early 20th Century banjo music courtesy of Russ, so it's a good job that I quite like it.

    If I have to mention bands I particularly like I must mention Mawkin, who are a fabulous band from Essex, The Devil's Interval, a wonderful harmony group, whose male singer, Jim Causley will be singing with Mawkin, which I am, so, looking forward to.

A quote I like:

First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.

    If you have walked in the heart of the Greenwood
    and have bathed in the light of its living force
    remember what you have felt;
    and whenever you pass a tree
    whether it stands alone in a wilderness of human making
    or in the depth of woodland,
    give a moment of your time to listen to its voice.
    For in many parts of the land the trees are dying
    only the hearts that know something of the true wisdom can save them. (Anon)

    Time to welcome in the Summer, health and happiness.

    Si usted ha paseado por el centro del bosque verde
    y se ha bañado en la luz de su fuerza viva
    recuerde lo que usted ha sentido;
    y siempre que usted pase al lado de un árbol
    si está parado solamente en un yermo de fabricación humana
    o en la profundidad del bosque,
    dé un momento de su tiempo para escuchar su voz.
    Porque en muchas partes de la tierra los árboles se están muriendo
    solamente los corazones que tengan algo de la sabiduría verdadera pueden salvarlos. (Anón)

    Hola, encantado de conocerle.

    The love story of Ralph and Edna...

    Just because someone doesn't love you the way you want them to, doesn't mean they don't love you with all they have. Ralph and Edna were both patients in a mental hospital. One day while they were walking past the hospital swimming pool. Ralph suddenly jumped into the deep end.

    He sank to the bottom of the pool and stayed there.

    Edna promptly jumped in to save him. She swam to the bottom and pulled him out. When the Head Nurse Director became aware of Edna's heroic act she immediately ordered her to be discharged from the hospital, as she now considered her to be mentally stable.

    When she went to tell Edna the news she said, 'Edna, I have good news and bad news. The good news is you're being discharged, since you were able to rationally respond to a crisis by jumping in and saving the life of the person you love. I have concluded that your act displays sound mindedness.

    The bad news is, Ralph hung himself in the bathroom with his bathrobe belt right after you saved him. I am so sorry, but he's dead.'

    Edna replied, 'He didn't hang himself, I put him there to dry. How soon can I go home?'

    Happy Mental Health Day!
