Life in general is mostly my inspiration. Musically though, I have been influenced by so many other styles and artists. To mention a few of my favorites ... Tori Amos, Fleetwood Mac, Kate Bush, Waterboys, Neil Diamond, Five for Fighting, Collective Soul, Live, Peter Gabriel ...
After kicking off her songwriting career with the purchase of a second hand guitar from a local pawn shop, Claire went on to teach herself the basics: "enough to get by in the writing of a song" she says.
"My brother was into music and writing long before me so he was kinda the initial spark of inspiration. We now do a lot of writing together."
Not long into the game they landed the theme song of a locally produced film Inside Out with their song of the same title. Soon the siblings left their home country, South Africa for Sweden where they planned to explore their music opportunities further and is where they currently reside.
Claire has had success in songwriting both internationally, with the song 'Sorry Anyway' performed by Tata Young and South African artist Sacha, as well as with Swedish artist Jill Jonsson performing the song 'God Bless a Girl in Love'.
"I have had the opportunity to hook up with some fantastic songwriters here in Sweden and owe tremendous gratitude to those who have given me a foot in."
As an artist Claire is particular about her own material, "Its very different writing for others as opposed to one's self. When I'm writing my own material it becomes such a personal communication. I love the entire creation process from the initial creation of a song to being in the studio to performing for others ... its great fun."
I've recently completed the music for the new film, A Sicilian Tale, which premieres Monday, March 23, 2009, at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival. I invite you to my page to listen.
