Passionate and timeless, award-winning Australian Singer-songwriter Claire Whiting delivers unforgettable live performances that bridge an emotional connection with her audience. Whiting writes Folk/Indie Pop songs that offer irresistible melodies and insightful lyrics, which will stay on your head long after seeing Claire’s live show, or putting her CD back in the case.
Claire grew up on an isolated farm in Tasmania with two struggling artists, attending gallery openings from the age of 6 and stealing wine and cheese from underneath the tables. Claire’s earliest memories of music were, being inspired by Kate Bush & Fleetwood Mac in the ‘Midnight Dancing’ sessions that her mother would setup in their paddock. She would point the speakers and spotlights which were strategically built on the outside of the house, on to the green Tasmanian lawn, and the ‘Midnight Dancing’ sessions would begin. Now Claire Whiting is one Australia’s most recognised emerging music talents. Claire has toured the country supporting artists such as The Fauves, Kate Miller Heidke, Jackie Marshall, and Diana Anaid.
After selling over 4000 copies of her first & second EP, Claire went on to release her third EP, which was commercially released through New York based distribution and synchronisation company Orchard mid 2009. ‘Simple Gifts’ was engineered and Co-produced by local producer known for his work with Brisbane Band ‘The Boat People’, Ben Stewart. The EP received regular airplay on Triple J, 4ZZZ, ABC 612, and an award nomination for best song for a film in Bryan Brown’s ‘The Reel Deal’ film festival, Sydney. As well as two years in a row nominated in The Queensland’s Q Song awards. One of the tracks off the EP Simple Gifts has already been chosen to be featured on a compilation CD & is making a substantial amount of sales through I Tunes.
2010 will see the release of Claire’s debut album. This time around Whiting paired up with legend Producer/Engineer Jeff Lovejoy to work on her debut album. Lovejoy is known for his work with The Cruel Sea, Resin Dogs, Powderfinger, and Tex Perkins and The Dark Horses, just to name a few. Track ‘Heavy Stuff’ off the album has already picked up a Best song award in the Blues & Roots category of the 2009 Q Song Awards.
