Clara- singing and playing (on recordings there are other people but mostly its just me.) I also play/sing in Jake and the Infernal Machine
Influences
Lots of different things, none of which I really sound like, including: joan baez, kathleen hanna and co, dar williams, mirah, cat power, appalachian and southern music, kimya dawson, the quails, the dresden dolls, the butchies, billie holliday, george gershwin songs, janis joplin, forget cassettes, the chicago and new haven women's liberation rock bands, liz phair, various musical friends of mine
Sounds Like
sarcasti-folk plus teen angst plus a voice more suited for choral singing plus a tiny bit of that political folkpunk stuff everyone won't stop talking about
I have been singing since I was little kid, knew some lines from an opera my dad was writing when i was 1.5 yrs old. When I was a small child I got to sing into a tape recorder for hours and hours, and I made up songs about some imaginary person named billybob and his relatives. I also wrote one with guitar called 'oh the train went down the tracks' which was about leaving my sister behind on vacation. I wrote pop songs about boys in middle school on a casio keyboard when I wore abercrombie and fitch. Now I find guitar to be semi-suitable for backing up my voice, but I in no way claim that I know how to play it. I sing about drama and about fucked up shit, and sometimes some sweet lovely songs too.
