Clarinette began in the early 1980's (unnamed at the time) with the dissolution of East Bay No Wave wannabe band The Wild Boys. The earliest recordings from the project were first heard on Ray Farrell's KPFA radio show Assassinatin' Rhythm in 1984-85. Clarinette remained dormant and nameless until 1998 when the first new recordings of the 1990's were made. A collection of these and older 1980's recordings saw release as the LP "Haze" on Thurston Moore and Byron Coley's Ecstatic Peace/Father Yod label collective in 2002 and may have been amongst the label's worst sellers, despite charting an impressive 916 on the Village Voice's 2002 Pazz and Jop annual critics poll. The second Clarinette album, Transmuting Fall, was issued in 2005 on CD in New Zealand on Campbell Kneale's Celebrate Psychic Phenomenon imprint (he of Birchville Cat Motel and Black Boned Angel). A new album is very slowly in the works.
