Introducing: METAL KITES  (view more)

[View All Blog Entries]

   About CLARK the band
NOTE: John Tielli's new Toronto based band is called Metal Kites. Metal Kites will play Clark the band classics in addition to exciting new material. See Metal Kites 'friend link'.

Born in Ottawa as "Clark" in 1999, Clark the band was founded by singer/songwriter/guitarist John Tielli, and has included numerous talented musicians over the years including members of The Arcade Fire, Wooden Stars, Local Rabbits and Hilotrons.

ALthough comparisons have been made to disparate icons such as The Talking Heads and Neil Young, CLARK the band's sound lands in Terra Incognita (uncharted territory).

First CD "Terra Incognita" was release independently in 2001:

"...Terra Incognita looks to be a darkhorse contender for Canadian debut of the year." Eye Weekly

"...soars from frantic to sullen with poetic ease." The Ottawa Citizen.

Latest CD "The Woods" first made available online at www.zunior.com in 2004 then officially released in 2005:

"Truly special...This is the kind of impassioned, sophisticated rock music we need to hear more of and Clark (the Band) can be credited with a stunning acheivement with The Woods" Exclaim!

"Intoxicating indie pop" Ottawa X Press

"Wonderfully weird and musically rich" Chart Magazine

"Complex, intelligent, pop-rock" Metro

"The Woods has finally arrived and it's among the most brilliant, sublime, utterly unique collection of pop music you're ever likely to hear." The Ottawa Sun

"A sweet surprise" FFWD Calgary

Live performance of "Fall Down", CBC ZED TV, 2002 - John Tielli, Mike Dubue, Matt Gagnon, and Phil Bova

"Psychiatric Ward" Clark the band live 2005, Cameron House, Toronto - John Tielli, Matt Gagnon and Andrew McCormack (the invisible drummer)

It’s a long time since I’ve added you, but I’ve made my way back to rediscover/discover several fantastic things:
1) Your music is reallyyyyy good.
2) You list Ottawa as one of your places of residence. You had better come play Ottawa (frequently) from May to August.
Seriously guys, seriously.

damn. I cannot stop listening to The Woods! Bought if off Zunior a couple weeks ago and it has been inconstant rotation since, along with Brad Mehldau, Kid A, Dave Douglas, and Joh Mayer. Excited about Metal Kites! I'm in the Hammer, and would *love* to get to play /record with you guys sometime. Drop me a line if you ever want a horn. or acoustic guitar. or keys. or venetian blinds (I have my own).

New Artwork is up in my MySpace Gallery. I’m a narcissistic attention whore so I’m going to make everyone go see it. This entire comment is a link to my MySpace Gallery (I’m also a genius).
