WORDSMITH has called many places around the world home. The son of a former Full Army Colonel meant home changed often; from New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Delaware, Texas, Kansas to as far as Germany. Growing up with the always inevitable relocation, Word found rap to be a powerful constant. His knowledge stems from starvation as he would save his lunch money each week to buy classic tapes from Redman, Big L, Nas, Eric B. and Rakim, Jeru the Damaja, A tribe called Quest, Da Bush Babees, Krs One, Gangstarr, Das Efx, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and his cousin Roc Marciano. Going away to school finally settled Word in one place, Maryland, first Morgan State with a full scholarship to play football, and finally Salisbury University where he continued football and received his B.A. in Theatre, Class of 2002.
Wordsmith’s debut album “The Vintage Experience” will break the established mold just in time for an industry in search of a new pioneer for the future. Unparalleled lyrics with soulful undertones laced with a 90’s backdrop make for head banging commercial appeal, guaranteeing this project to be a classic on your shelf for years to come. Seeking a 2010 release, the material on "The Vintage Experience" will range from songs Wordsmith wrote/recorded in 2006 to 2008. Keeping his theater roots in the back of his mind, Word also created Vintage to be performed theatrical in a club atmospheres and large arena’s equally.
Apart from albums, Wordsmith appears heavily on the mixtape circuit, with most of his mixtapes gaining sponsorship from the number one HipHop site on the internet HipHopdx.com. His first mixtape release, “Statements & Stipulations,” was sponsored by 730 from HipHopgame.com and that garnered the up and coming MC a notable mention on MTV’s Mixtape Mondays. Word’s next mixtape, The Revolution Begins with a Takeover Vol.1 got him a placement as the top mixtape for January 2009 in the national syndicated magazine HipHop Weekly. Wordsmith’s following mixtapes, “The Mid-Year Review,” “The Revolution Begins with a Takeover Vol. 2,” and “The 2008 Resolution & Re-Cap” were a huge success on the internet and interviews/reviews with 93.9 WKYS HipHop Nation (DC), OC 104 (DE), 92.7 Kiss FM (VA), XM Radio (DC), 76.1 Joint One Radio Inter FM (Japan), 89.7 FM Atlantis Radio (Ghana), 107.1 Tha Prophecy Show (Germany), The Baltimore City Paper, The Baltimore Afro Paper, Hip-Hop Weekly, One-Ten Magazine, The Atlantic City Press, Crossroad Magazine, ABC’s Official Heat, HipHopgame.com, HipHop.org, AllHipHop, RapTalk.net, Rago Magazine, Who Mag DVD, Hoodlife DVD, King Size Magazine, HHNLIVE.com, Soundslam.com, Grind Mode Magazine, Critical Beatdown Magazine, The Noyse Magazine, Okay Player, HipHop Liberators, UKHH.com, Britishhiphop.co.uk, HipHop Connection Magazine (UK) and numerous radio stations ensued.

Backtracking somewhat, 2008 was the year Wordsmith blew on the College Radio airwaves with the song "Ode to tha Pioneers." In January 2008, the record peaked at 4 on the Rapnetwork College Top 30 Charts without a College Radio Promoter. Though this garnered Wordsmith some national exposure, it was the sequel to “Ode to the Pioneers,” titled "As the Art Fades Away” that really sparked some controversy. Fans and underground Hip-Hop heads voiced their discrepancies about a Nas track titled “Surviving the Times” that used the same drum pattern and sample as the producer of Word’s track. Even the concept was similar to what Word wrote, so the internet forums, blogs, and major HipHop sites were buzzing at an alarming rate. It got to the point that Wordsmith and Nas’ A&R Mike Brink had a conference call to discuss the issue and clear the air. HipHopdx.com mediated the call and later released the follow up story for those in need of closure on the disappointing situation.
Still, Wordsmith pushed on and seemed to gain more motivation to separate himself from the rest of the pack. Becoming a legitimate business man on the unsigned level was important to Word and he kicked off that notion by doing a major marketing deal with Joint One LLC. in Japan. They are responsible for marketing/promoting Word’s image and in August 2008, they secured a deal for Wordsmith to write some theme music for the Platinum Games/Sega release called “MadWorld,” for the Nintendo Wii system. A marketing deal with the UK based RVUP came next and they helped sign Word's "Ode to tha Pioneers" track to Puma Fragrances for a CD-Rom game they are packing with the product. Returning back to the US, Wordsmith signed a deal with BE Colleges for College campus show bookings and No Vacancy Booking for tours. Clothing deals with Vintage Clothing Limited andWearyourcity.com would soon follow as Wordsmith looked to solidify his portfolio.
In the middle of 2008 Wordsmith started expanding his Radio connections by writing Jingles for former 103.9/OC 104 on air personality Poot. Word also handled some show intros for Chubb Love from 10-2 PM as well. By March 26th 2008, Word took the next logical step by releasing his own worldwide Podcast called “Revolt Radio,” a internet show that gained over 100,000 subscribers after its first year on the air. In 2009, the Radio station gained affiliations with 88.1 WKNC, Microphonebully.com, & Unheard Radio for syndication. With these universal deals it is easy to understand how dedicated and motivated Wordsmith is, and how he managed to gather a widely diverse camp of like minded people for his NU Revolution Entertainment Label.
March 2009 brought the official launch of NU Revolution Entertainment LLC and deals with Go Digital, Unruly, E1 Entertainment, Screenplay, Music Dealers, Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes, Microphonebully.com, Unheard Radio, In Your Face Music Group, Rhino Music, HipHopdx, 2 Dope Boyz and HipHop Weekly. On a personal tip, Flagship owner/artist Wordsmith had major accomplishments for the label by securing “HipHop Weekly’s” Unsigned Hype of the month for November 2008 and following that up with a Next 2 Blow selection for June 2009, Presented by Burger King. Word also helps book the “Record Breakers” section with Jeff Smalls for the nationally syndicated magazine, so stay tuned to one of the most knowledgeable independent artists in the game.
PERFORMING
Wordsmith is a versatile MC but he is also a theater trained actor, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts from Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. Performing in plays like “All my Sons” and the musical “1776,” Word has been able to translate his acting skills to his music and live shows. He dubs his shows “Hip-Hop Plays” because of the scenery changes, props, and stunning movements that bring his songs to life on stage. For his stage show on Adelphia/Comcast Cable’s Backstage Pass he used prop snow, rain, umbrellas, tables, chairs, leaves, confetti and more.
