WORDSMITH has called many places around the world home. The son of a former Full Army Colonel meant home changed often; from New York, New Jersey, Virginia, Georgia, Delaware, Texas, Kansas to as far as Germany. Growing up with the always inevitable relocation, Word found rap to be a powerful constant. His knowledge stems from starvation as he would save his lunch money each week to buy classic tapes from Redman, Big L, Nas, Eric B. and Rakim, Jeru the Damaja, A tribe called Quest, Da Bush Babees, Krs One, Gangstarr, Das Efx, Public Enemy, Ice Cube, and his cousin Roc Marciano. Going away to school finally settled Word in one place, Maryland, first Morgan State with a full scholarship to play football, and finally Salisbury University where he continued football and received his B.A. in Theatre, Class of 2002.
Wordsmith’s debut album “Vintage Material” will break the established mold, just in time for an industry in search of a new pioneer for the future. Unparalleled lyrics with soulful undertones laced with a 90’s backdrop make for head banging commercial appeal, guaranteeing this project to be a classic on your shelf for years to come. Wordsmith created Vintage with an arena performance in mind so prepare to experience a stage show to showcase Word’s Theater background.
Before this debut release Word teamed up with the legendary Chubb Rock, making the monumental album “Bridging the Gap," scheduled to release July 14th of 2009 on GoDigital Records (Digital) & Unruly/Koch Records (Physical). To accompany their album, Chubb and Word released a mixtape called, “A Crack in the Bridge,” on May 13th through HipHopdx.com. Simultaneously, Wordsmith will be releasing an album in the UK entitled "A Baltimore Martini" with Dutch artist I.N.C The Poet. Wordsmith seeks to establish his diversity and longevity with his future projects “Appetizer at the Pioneer Pub EP,” “The Soundscape Experience,” “The Golden Era,” and a pair of experimental Rock/Hip-Hop albums called “Rockstrumentals” and “R2: Ground Zero.” It is a goal for Word to drop a classic Hip-Hop album simultaneously with a Rockstrumentals album and dominate two distinct genres.
Apart from albums, Wordsmith appears heavily on the mixtape circuit, with most of his mixtapes gaining sponsorship from the number one HipHop site on the internet HipHopdx.com. His first mixtape release, “Statements & Stipulations,” was sponsored by 730 from HipHopgame.com. and that garnered the up and coming MC a notable mention on MTV’s Mixtape Mondays. Word’s next mixtape, The Revolution Begins with a Takeover Vol.1 got him a placement as the top mixtape for January 2009 in the national syndicated magazine HipHop Weekly. Wordsmith’s following mixtapes, “The Mid-Year Review,” “The Revolution Begins with a Takeover Vol. 2,” and “The 2008 Resolution & Re-Cap” were a huge success on the internet and interviews/reviews with The Baltimore City Paper, Hip-Hop Weekly, One-Ten Magazine, The Atlantic City Press, ABC’s Official Heat, HipHopgame.com, HipHop.org, AllHipHop, RapTalk.net, Rago Magazine, Who Mag DVD, Hoodlife DVD, King Size Magazine, HHNLIVE.com, Soundslam.com, Grind Mode Magazine, Critical Beatdown Magazine, The Noyse Magazine, Okay Player, XM Radio UKHH.com, Britishhiphop.co.uk, HipHop Connection Magazine (UK) and numerous radio stations ensued.
Backtracking somewhat, 2008 was the year Wordsmith blew on the College Radio airwaves with the song "Ode to tha Pioneers." In January 2008, the record peaked at 4 on the Rapnetwork College Top 30 Charts without a College Radio Promoter. Though this garnered Wordsmith some national exposure, it was the sequel to “Ode to the Pioneers,” titled "As the Art Fades Away” that really sparked some controversy. Fans and underground Hip-Hop heads voiced their discrepancies about a Nas track titled “Surviving the Times” that used the same drum pattern and sample as the producer of Word’s track. Even the concept was similar to what Word wrote, so the internet forums, blogs, and major HipHop sites were buzzing at an alarming rate. It got to the point that Wordsmith and Nas’ A&R Mike Brink had a conference call to discuss the issue and clear the air. HipHopdx.com mediated the call and later released the follow up story for those in need of closure on the disappointing situation.
Still, Wordsmith pushed on and seemed to gain more motivation to separate himself from the rest of the pack. Becoming a legitimate business man on the unsigned level was important to Word and he kicked off that notion by doing a major marketing deal with Joint One LLC. in Japan. They are responsible for marketing/promoting Word’s image and in August 2008, they secured a deal for Wordsmith to write some theme music for the Platinum Games/Sega release called “MadWorld,” for the Nintendo Wii system. A marketing deal with the UK based RVUP came next and they helped sign Word's "Ode to tha Pioneers" track to Puma Fragrances for a CD-Rom game they are packing with the product. Returning back to the US, Wordsmith signed a deal with BE Colleges for College Campus show bookings and No Vacancy Booking for tours. Clothing deals with Vintage Clothing Limited, Wearyourcity.com, and Super Hero would soon follow as Wordsmith looked to solidify his portfolio.
In the middle of 2008 Wordsmith started expanding his Radio connections by writing Jingles for former 103.9/OC 104 on air personality Poot. Word also handled some show intros for Chubb Love from 10-2 PM as well. By March 26th 2008, Word took the next logical step by releasing his own worldwide Podcast called “Revolt Radio,” a syndicated show that gained over 100,000 subscribers after its first year on the air. Word also shot his first video with G-Light Films for “Park & Ride: The Sunset Edition,” which was just added to rotation on Skope Magazine’s “Skope TV” as a pre-release. With these universal deals it is easy to understand how dedicated and motivated Wordsmith is, and how he managed to gather a widely diverse camp of like minded people for his NU Revolution Entertainment Label.
March 2009 brought the official launch of NU Revolution Entertainment LLC, which in its infancy has brokered several major deals to date. With the new label comes the release of his collabo album, “Bridging the Gap” with Chubb Rock and the UK album, “A Baltimore Martini” with INC The Poet .In the states he secured a deal with The Independent Coffee Network to allow use of his music for their in-store entertainment in coffee shops all across the country. Recently, deals were worked with Sprint TV & Screenplay to service Chubb & Word’s “Old 2 The New” Music Video. MTV has also picked up the video to be serviced on all six of their primetime stations. Look for Chubb Rock & Wordsmith to appear on Jimmy Kimmel LIVE in July, so stay tuned to one of the most knowledgeable independent artist in the game.
PERFORMING
Wordsmith is a versatile MC but he is also a theater trained actor, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts from Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. Performing in plays like “All my Sons” and the musical “1776,” Word has been able to translate his acting skills to his music and live shows. He dubs his shows “Hip-Hop Plays” because of the scenery changes, props, and stunning movements that bring his songs to life on stage. For his stage show on Adelphia/Comcast Cable’s Backstage Pass he used prop snow, rain, umbrellas, tables, chairs, leaves, confetti and more. Through extensive networking Wordsmith has performed LIVE with these notable names at these places…

QUICK QUESTION?????????? Is There ANY Hip-Hop/Rap Artist Out There Who Can Make A Song & It NOT Include The Following Topics: SAMPLING Of ANY Kind, Cursing, Swearing, Use Of The Words B*$ch, N%*ga, H*e, F#*K, A$$, P*%sy, Motherf%*ker & D*#k. NOT Include Sex, Money, Grills, Jewerly, Diamonds, Tattoos, Clubs, Guns, Shooting, Killing, Robbing, Hustling, Drinks, Hoods, Cars, Rims, Boats, Planes, Clothes, Disrespecting Women, Half Naked Women, Partying, Wearing Your Pants Under Your Rear End, The Use Of Auto-Tune, Wine Bottles , OG's, Hustlers & Gangs? Because A Producer & I Listen To Alot Of Music & Basically This Is What I Hear Being Rapped About ALLLLLLLLLL Of The Time Over & Over & Over Again. Sure The Names & Packages May Change, But The Garbage Is ALWAYS All Still The Same. This Is What We As Comsumers Are Throwing Our Hard Earned Money Away On , Just Something To Think About...
The Key Word Is RECYCLED Why Spend Your Money On RECYCLED Trash/Gargabe? NOTHING These Current & New Artists Is Doing Is New & Don't Be Fooled By These Major Labels Who Only Put Out One Decent Song For Radio Air Play From An Artist's Album & Then When You Go To Buy The Album Anywhere Between $15 To $21 Dollars There's Only 3 Decent Songs Worth Listening To If Even That. Don't Think So, Just Listen Very Carefully To What's Out Now & You'll See What Im Talkin About...
My Advice To ALLLL Of The Up & Coming New Artist & Fellow Producers Out There: DON'T TRY TO BE LIKE EVERYBODY ELSE OUT THERE, GET YOUR OWN STYLE OTHERWISE YOU'LL FIND YOURSELF BY YOURSELF..... & Find Something Else To Write About, Show ORIGINALITY, SHOW IMAGINATION, SHOW WITTINEST, SHOW RELAVENT LYRICAL CONTENT, UP LIFT OUR WOMEN, MEN & EACH OTHER, INCLUDE GOD INTO YOUR WORK.... Because What's Being Done Right Now By Too Many Is NOT What He Has Given Us These Tracks & 16 Bars To Do....
