I am a fulltime mum and songwriter, living in Auckland New Zealand. My working background is in television, and my musical background includes 5 years with an original acapella quartet, a few years in an indie rock band, performing arts school and a very musical family where I learnt to sing in harmony (think The Carter Family etc...). My first memorable moment in the spotlight, that maybe gave me the bug for the stage, was a talent quest with my sisters, performing an acappella rendition of 'Venus' complete with actions, and bikinis, at the Waihi Beach soundshell in about 1988. The glory was fabulous. About that time I also knew Crowded House's debut album off by heart, plus Tracy Chapman's too.
As well as writing the songs you can hear on this page, I am also the vocalist in electronic soul act 'Substax' (you can hear their tunes at myspace.com/substax and at amplifier.co.nz). Substax put out their debut album 'Electro Soul Plane' in 2005. We are currently recording new songs for a forthcoming second album.
One of the songs I've written for my baby Dylan - 'Lullaby Time' - was the joint winner of APRA's 2008 Children's Song of the Year. Since that time, I've been writing more in that vein, testing them out at Dylan's daycare and playgroups, and getting demo recordings down for a lullaby album. Home Sweet Home, and Goodnight Luna are two of the new ones.
heya, just a little note to say we got this debut album thing released on monday! we'll be out playing in March/April, hope to catch you then... x a. s. z. a
