The exploration of the sonorous universe, for Claudio Gabriele, is related, consciously or unconsciously, to real life as well to the cosmos that unfold in the poetic and fine arts. Similarly, upon the conception of a form, human archetypes organize resonant images and elements of musical language. They are represented by the collective unconscious, rich with archaic and universal symbols. Lastly, with the help of a specialized traditional technique, a parallel universe can be created: an illusion, a dream, that can reflect the contemporary world or propose other perspectives.
Claudio Gabriele was born in Rome, completed his studies at St Cecilia Conservatory and Istituto Pontificio di Musica Sacra in Rome where he obtained degrees with Emphasis in Composition, Electroacoustic Music, Conducting, Piano, Organ, Harpsichord and Gregorian Chant. Subsequently, he studied composition and conducting with George Benjamin at the National Academy of St Cecilia, with Klaus Huber in Avignon, and Ivan Fedele at the Strasbourg's National Regional Conservatory, where he achieved the Diplôme d'Etudes Musicales. From 1997 to 2004 he had many residencies in computer music at IRCAM (Paris) with Ferneyhough, Lindberg, Harvey, Rebotier, Levinas; afterwards studied electronic music with Risset, Roads, Terruggi and Di Giugno at the Centre for Musical Research in Rome. In 2003 Claudio Gabriele won the first prize of the International Electroacoustic Music Contest Musica Nova (Prague) with the acousmatic composition "Ombra nell'azzurro"; in 2006 he won an award at the International Composition Contest “Music in the Garden” (Krakow). To promote and expand interactive performances of music, dance, images and electroacoustic sounds he founded the Synthesis Ensemble in 1996. From 1993 to 2003, Claudio Gabriele had an intense collaboration as composer and guest lecturer with the New York University, consequently collaborated with the Juilliard School (New York), the Vanderbilt University (Nashville) and the Universities of Strasbourg and Montpellier (France). From 2005 to 2008 he was Composer in Residence at Conservatories of Aix-en-Provence, Nîmes and Paris (France), where he received numerous commissions for solo, duo, trio, ensemble, and large symphony orchestra. Since 2005 he has been involved in Musical Theatre, writing his own librettos, and now has three works in his catalogue of this genre, commissioned and performed by leading ensembles (S.I.C., Reflex, Les Jeunes Voix du Rhin, Musiques Nouvelles). Claudio Gabriele is at present professor on Composition, Analysis and Electroacoustic Music in the Department of Music and New Technologies at the State’s Conservatory of Benevento (Italy). Gabriele’s works are interpreted by celebrated artists and performed worldwide in prestigious places or on the occasion of important international festivals.
Claudio Gabriele, né à Rome, il étudie au Conservatoire « S. Cecilia » où il obtient de nombreux diplômes, en composition, direction d’orchestre, musique électroacoustique, piano, clavecin, chant grégorien, orgue et composition pour orgue. C’est grâce à l’enseignement de George Benjamin à S. Cecilia, de Klaus Huber à Avignon et d’Ivan Fedele au Conservatoire National de Région de Strasbourg qu’il perfectionne sa technique. Il acquiert ses connaissances en MAO (Musique Assisté par l’Ordinateur) à l’Université de New York, puis à l’IRCAM de Paris, enfin au Centre de Recherches Musicales de Rome. Son Travail est récompensé en 2003 par l’obtention du Premier Prix au Concours International de musique électroacoustique « Musica Nova » de Prague, et en 2006 par le Prix Spécial au Concours International « Music for a Garden » de Krakow. Professeur de composition, informatique et analyse des langages musicaux du XX siècle près du Conservatoire de Benevento en Italie, il est fréquemment invité ailleurs pour masterclass et concerts (Conservatoires de Paris, Nîmes, Aix-en-Provence, Université de Strasbourg, New York University, Vanderbilt University, Juilliard School …). Fasciné par les thèmes mystiques tels que la rêverie, l’âme et les visions fantasmagoriques, Claudio Gabriele colore ses spectacles d’une ambiance surnaturelle. Ses œuvres, interactives et pluridisciplinaires, mêlent musique, danse, images, et sons électroacoustiques. Son art, véritable symbiose des œuvres visuelles et musicales, a parcouru le monde et s’est exprimé dans des nombreux festivals et manifestations culturelles internationales.
Claudio Gabriele è nato a Roma, ha studiato al Conservatorio S. Cecilia diplomandosi in Composizione, Pianoforte, Organo e Composizione Organistica, Strumentazione per Banda e in seguito in Musica Elettronica con il massimo dei voti sotto la guida del M° Giorgio Nottoli. Ha studiato Semiografia e Canto Gregoriano presso il Pontificio Istituto di Musica Sacra di Roma. Si è perfezionato in composizione e direzione d’orchestra con G. Benjamin presso l’Accademia Nazionale S. Cecilia, con K. Huber presso l’Académie d’été “Acanthes” di Avignon, e infine con I. Fedele presso il “Conservatoire National de Strasbourg”, dove ha conseguito un Diploma in Musicologia. Nel 1996 ha fondato il “Synthesis Ensemble” per l’esecuzione e la promozione di spettacoli interattivi di musica, danza, immagini, videoclip, suoni elettroacustici e teatro musicale. Dal 1997 frequenta assiduamente il centro di informatica musicale I.R.C.A.M. di Parigi. Dal 1993 al 2003 ha collaborato con la New York University in qualità di compositore per la realizzazione di spettacoli multimediali, e in qualità di “guest lecturer” come docente di analisi e informatica per i corsi di Master. Vincitore di concorso nazionale, dal 1998 è titolare di cattedra presso il Conservatorio Statale “Nicola Sala” di Benevento, dove insegna Composizione, Informatica Musicale, Tecniche di Registrazione Audio. E’ spesso interpellato all’estero da Università e Conservatori per tenere masterclass di composizione (Paris, Strasbourg, Montpellier, Cambridge, Nashville, Boston, Chicago, New York). Nel 2002 il Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Strasbourg gli ha dedicato un concerto monografico. Nel 2005 e 2006 è stato nominato “compositeur en résidence” nei conservatori di Aix-en-Provence e Nîmes, ricevendo numerose commissioni di musica cameristica e sinfonica. E’ vincitore di concorsi internazionali di composizione tra cui: “Musica Nova” di Praga, “Music for a Garden” di Krakovia. Numerose composizioni di Claudio Gabriele sono pubblicate in Francia e Germania, utilizzate anche nei programmi didattici nazionali dei consevatori. Il vasto catalogo di composizioni di Claudio Gabriele include opere cameristiche, sinfoniche e teatrali; esse sono eseguite da musicisti di fama internazionale in Europa, Stati Uniti, Sud America, anche in rilevanti festival internazionali: Festival “Musica” di Strasbourg, Festival d’Avignon, Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, Oxford International Music Festival, “Arsenal” di Metz, The North American Saxophone Alliance 2008 Biennial Conference University of South Carolina.
