Our performances and workshop are very much full of Brazilian spirit and collour and rhythm. Before the drum has always played a prominent role in society. Consider the tribal talking drum spanning through centuries of musical adaptation and interpretation to the techno beats of today. About me:
Born in 1971 in Itabuna, Bahia, Brazil. Famous as a centre of cacau (cocoa) production the environment has long provided nourishment for the imagination and inspired artists, musicians and writers. Growing up in such an environment was instrumental to Claudio's love of music and it was when his mother Nanucia Lima Santos (Dona Milu) presented him with his first Berimbau that his fascination with percussion began and it became his medium of expression. Under the tuition of Adalmiro Leoncio da Silva (Mestre SABARA) Claudio's culmative years were spent studying many different percussion instruments, experimenting with sounds and rhythms and mastering a wide range of Brazilian traditional rhythms (studies which continue to this day)
Working in shows both as a musician and producer Claudio toured Brazil extensively performing in Bahia, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais, Rio Grande do Sul, Parana, Curitiba, etc… before moving to the UK in 1996. Since his arrival in the UK Claudio has led percussion workshops and performed in a variety of shows. He has explored new musical horizons and has expanded his sound by mixing native Brazilian rhythms with a whole range of global influences which he has encountered here. Claudio continues to promote Brazilian music & culture thoughout Europe encouraging total participation and creating new musicians everywhere he goes.
