ClayMachineGun are Amanda Grace, Lauren Jones, Dan 'Ol' Red' Stewart, Will James and Jasper Williams (filling in for erstwhile drummer Ross Wilde). Unified under the manifesto slogan 'create your own weapon' CMG cross post-punk no-wave and post-hardcore influences with pop sensibilities and mashed rock 'n' roll gospell in a disco-party club trash sound.
Founded in early '05 ClayMachineGun quiclky wrote and recorded an album's worth of material before losing it all in a studio burglary in which all their computers, hard-drives and some instruments were taken. Regrouping CMG played their debut gig at the Great Eastern Hotel in August '05, ironically without guitarist Ol' Red, who in a mist of smoke, strobes and lazers was misplaced in the crowd and failed to take the stage; prompting ArtRocker magazine's infamous decry, '...music for deaf people...'.
Previous shows have included support slots for Primal Scream, in London and Manchester; the ViceMagazine 'Jackalope' festival; Selfridge's 'Future Punk' season; and Ronnie Scott's. Drawing plaudits along the way from Bobbie Gillespie of Primal Scream, "the ultra-vixon pharmaceutical storm trooper in stilletoes", and Ronnie Scott's Artistic Director Leo Green, "...you basically came in here, took jazz, threw it on the floor and stamped on it... i really wanted to hate you, but by the end i was loving it".
CMG are currently booking a nationwide tour to promote the release of their debut double A-side single, 'Kick that bitch in the Cunt'/'69 (..Seen the light...)'; forthcoming on Two Thumbs Records, and produced by Robin Wynn-Evans, half of the management team behind Dundonian upstarts The View. They have appeared in NME, as Alan McGee's One'sToWatch; The Fly; and French newspaper Liberation.
