Originally from Toronto, Canada, Denwood did a stint in Montreal before making tracks to the legendary town of Woodstock NY, where he appeared on stage & studio with the likes of Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Rick Danko & the other members of The Band (Jimmy Weider, Randy Ciarlante) while also appearing on the same bills with NRBQ, Joe Henry, Dave Van Ronk, Paul McMahon, Chris Smithers & even the Hothouse Flowers...NYC venues included The Bitter End,CBGB's & The Baggot Inn ...
Seven years later, after being most unceremoniously thrown out of the United States (read the Gary Alexander article...) & back in his hometown, Denwood hooked up with Juno-winning producer Joe Dunphy (TriContinental w/ Lester Quitzaw, Bill Bourne & Madagascar Slim) to produce a live album "THE EXILE SESSIONS" Live at the Old York(2000) & later started construction of Monumental Sound and began recording again in early 2001. After many hours of hard work "SUNSET ON THE HIGHWAY" burst through onto the scene & landed amidst the giant & evergrowing heap of folk/rock songwriter albums....(we're not making this up...) Reached 2 at CFBX FM (Kamloops BC) & is spinning on various CBC shows as well as the legendary WKZE out of Sharon,Conn. & some others...
A year spent in London UK (2004) led to that album being awarded a Jenny for Independent album of the year by Panartist.com & the formation of a cracking english band including the long & lean Pete Greenwood on guitar, Karl Klews on bass, Justin Machey ..s & swingin' Lee Cook on drums. Most memorably played at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Troubadour in Earls Court...
The new release "Tryin' to Resist" is a collection of songs recorded by John Rivers at Woodbine St. Studio in Royal Leamington Spa featuring Leo Steeds (keys), Dave Page (guitar), Kelvin Leitch (drums), Dan Thompson (bass) & Harry Lightfoot (sax)...
Currently residing in Warwickshire County/London UK
