“As smooth as any Blue Note record I’ve heard,” Humberto Guida of The Miami New Times states in reference to one of Cleaveland’s performances. His music is an eclectic mix of Brazilian beats, New Orleans funk, Caribbean reggae and an attitude that's 100% pure rock & roll. “My experiences in Brazil, living and breathing the tropical culture in Miami … these things really inspire me.” His latest independent release, Keeping Up With the Joneses, is 10 songs that tell his story and deliver a message. Cleaveland adds, “Truth and soul. It’s all there. It’s like watching the sunset on the beach.”
Mr. Jones is not only a musician, singer-songwriter and dj, he produces with local and major artists as well. His two-year collaboration with international jazz vocalist Nicole Henry led to performances all over Miami, and as far away from home as New York City. Moreover, Sony Pictures Entertainment Television lounge project picked up one of his tracks to be featured as a ring-tone and a television commercial in Latin America. This year, Cleaveland and his participated in Miami's renowned Transatlantic Music Festival, sharing the stage with Colombian-Rock icons "Aterciopelados." Also, Cleaveland Jones has recently released a full length music video for the song titled "Sucker."
During recent years, Cleaveland Jones has been featured in a number of Miami publications. These include Miami.com, 944, The Miami New Times, City Link Magazine, Magazine, Flavorpill.com and others. Awards include the Miami New Times Readers Poll winner as "Best Rock Band of 2007," and from City Link editor's choice as "Best Songwriter of 2007."
Lou is his name, but everyone knows him as Cleaveland Jones. A native of the midwest, he began to pursue a life in music in his twenties. Since that time, he has found himself working along side such artists as Nicole Henry, De La Soul, The Spam All-Stars, The Average White Band, Nicolle Chirino, Phonecia, Suenalo, and even Jesse Jackson. Cleaveland graduated from Hamilton College in New York with a degree in Psychology. During this time, his travels took him as far away from home as India. Later, musical studies and inspirations led him to call Brazil his home for almost two years.
