The Actual Band Biography Part:
Mike and Aaron met in the summer of 2004 at the Repertory East Playhouse. Mike was the Concessions Manager, and Aaron was the Assistant Stage Manager for The Nerd. During the run of the show, Aaron would get quite bored before each show, having completed his pre-show a good hour each night before the show began. To combat this boredom, Aaron would bring a guitar (which, to this day, he is still not that good at).
Intrigued by this motion (or maybe just finally ready to branch out to another person. Possibly just to show Aaron up, because Mike thought he was annoying), Mike came out from behind the concession stand and the computer (surfing things like Frenzy Board and Low Brow).
Mike proceeded to take Aaron's guitar, and completely own him on it.
An interesting thing happened. Mike played a Five Iron Frenzy song, and Aaron recognized it. Aaron asked of what other FIF songs Mike knew, to which Mike responded, "Uh... All of them."
This is when Aaron decided it was time to get serious.
Two years passed, as Aaron did not, in fact, get serious. He stayed in touch with Mike very briefly, only seeing him at the R.E.P. every once in a while.
No one knows for sure how they got to be such good friends, but over the course of time, Mike came out of his shell, and Aaron got less annoying.
Okay, Aaron didn't get less annoying, but Mike did build a tolerance to him.
One day a in the late months of 2006, Aaron and Mike had become quite accustom to playing songs from their favorite bands together in parking lots. At this point, Mike and Aaron also worked together at the Best Buy of Santa Clarita. At Best Buy, they were holding a "Talent Show".
Aaron, intrigued by this opportunity, coaxed Mike into playing a medley. Reluctantly, Mike accepted, and they soon wrote their first song together (so to speak. Seeing as how it was just a collaboration of songs that had been previously written and recorded).
Aaron and Mike performed their medley for the Best Buy Employees, and won first place. Two $20 gift cards to Olive Garden. Oh yeah, they were living the dream.
Soon after, Mike was filled with the joy that only a performer knows. It pumped through his vein and invigorated his spirit.
Soon after that, Mike was very serious about getting a band started. He pursued finding a drummer, finding recording studios, and the like.
One faithful day, weeks after the show, Aaron and Mike set off to a local music store, on a whim. There, they purchased basic recording equipment, and soon after they set up in Aaron's dining room.
Using Aaron's basic knowledge of recording music (Aaron had taken an Intro to Music Recording class at U.N.L.V., which he got a "D" in), they very basically recorded a small batch of songs.
Right now they plan to finish recording all the songs they've written, start playing live shows locally, and hopefully get some better equipment.
Oh, and a drummer would be nice, too.
Where Things Are Now:
On September 10th, 2007, Mike Nolasco passed away from a heart condition. Since this time, I (Aaron) have decided not to continue with the band. Since it was just him and me anyways, I think it's a nice way to preserve one of the things I loved doing with one of my closest friends. He will be loved and missed forever.
Even More Updated:
So it seems like not even tragedy can silence the music. After deliberation (and support), I feel confident that continuing on is not a cop out, but a way to honor Mike forever. Nobody will ever replace him, but I will never stop drawing inspiration from him.
Let's have some fun with music, kids.
