About Cliff Clavin

Cliff Clavin formed early 2006 in the small town of Garðabær outside Reykjavík. Initially the band starting with Bjarni (Vocals/Guitar) and Addi (Drums), with Fannar (Guitars) and Todo (Bass) joining later to complete the line - up. Originally their music being a mixture of Desert Rock and Grunge they where labelled as “Most up and coming band in Iceland” in May 2007 by Reykjavík FM. In August they released their first single “Such Mistakes”; the song was an instant favourite for listeners and made it to the chart at RVK FM.

In November 2007 they won the Icelandic battle of the bands competition which led them to London in December where they reached the finals at the Electric Ballroom in Camden. The bands potential being spotted by Crispin Vaughn Thomas, who would later produce the initial recordings of the forthcoming release ‘The Thief’s Manual’.

The year leading up to going into the studio Cliff Clavin saw a radical change happening in their rehearsals, whilst maintaining regular live shows for their dedicated fans. Maturing their original sound to incorporate melodic chapters and harmonies, new arrangements to their already heavy drum beats, dirty guitar riffs and creamy bass lines. Resulting in a fresh take on the old grunge sound with Bjarni’s infectious vocals in the forefront.

In January 2009 the group took their new sound to Flateyri, recording at Tankurinn Studio (The Tank) with owner/engineer Önundur Pálsson. The vocals recorded later in Studio Error, Hafnafjörður with engineer Jóhann Rúnar. The collaboration with producer Crispin Vaughn Thomas advanced the bands music to achieve a varied collection of powerful and ambitious songs. The rest of 2009 has seen the band playing live shows non stop. The new sound adding honesty and intimacy to their already energetic live performances. With new songs reaching out to a wider audience the band have seen a growing addicted and affectionate following.

August 2009 Cliff Clavin released the single ‘Midnight Getaways’ offering the first impression of what is to come from their debut album ‘The Thief’s Manual’. The song is being played regularly on Iceland’s most popular radio stations X-ið 977 and Rás2 and is a firm favourite with listeners. The summer also included the band being chosen to compete along side the most popular groups in Iceland, on Rás 2 comedy/music radio show Litla hafmeyjan - Battle of The Bands. Each week the bands competing would play a song of their own, a song by one of the other bands and one varied themed song - including covers. After a four week battle with the audience at home calling in to vote their winner, Cliff Clavin consecutively won each round and were voted the champions in the finals.

The band have picked up recognition outside of Iceland and are currently developing their songs with esteemed 80's UK producer Martin Rushent and state side with grammy award winning producer Warren Riker. The albums planned for release in 2010, Cliff Clavin are set to establish a brand new scene for audiences in and out of Iceland.
