His delicate pieces ooze sentiment and energy in varying juxtaposed measures. It is true that the style of these pieces owes much to the music of such well-known crossover artists such as Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen and Michael Nyman. But this was no mere marketing strategy, some calculated attempt to win over fans from different musical fields. On the contrary, what is striking in this music is its honesty. Having tasted different, contrasting types of music, Clifford Borg has managed to weld these experiences in a style which is varied in its points of reference but which is at the same time simple, tuneful and entertaining. Clifford Borg was born into a musical family on May 11, 1976. By the age of five, he had already started to take piano lessons and within the year, he had joined his two sisters in his father’s band, entertaining patrons at their family restaurant. The positive reception prompted them to form The Islanders, performing regularly at various Maltese hotels and clubs. At the age of 10, Clifford was asked to give a live solo performance on Malta’s national television station, playing a repertoire that included Fur Elise, Moonlight Sonata and Ballad pour Adeline. A year later he was again on television, this time with The Islanders. Clifford immersed himself in music, obtaining a diploma in piano practical and theory (ALCM) at an early age. This was also the time he decided to try his hand at composing. The song Longing Dawn, which placed 7th in Malta..s most prestigious song festival, was the culmination of his work between 1995 and 1997, during which time Clifford was also the keyboard player with the band Orion. When the band dissolved, Clifford decided to focus more on composition, and in March 2000, he released his debut album Drifted. The solo piano album featured twelve piano-based tracks composed and performed by Clifford himself. In the meantime, he also collaborated with local singer Chiara and other artists. One of the numbers of the album, Hoping was later remixed as an ambient dance track and was the third most played and requested track by local artists on Capital Radio. Clifford has also given a number of concerts in Malta and abroad, namely in the United Kingdom (London), Holland (Amsterdam), Belgium (Brussels), Germany (Koblenz), France (Paris), Sicily (Pozzallo) and Egypt (Egypt). His performances have been well-received by audiences and critics alike. More recently, Clifford recently launched his second album Origin which was recorded in Brussels. He is currently working on his third album, which is based on a cross-over of different musical genres. Emergence from the album Origin won the Best Music and for Digital film Award at the Swan Lake Moving Image and Movie Award (SL:MIMA), an international event organized to honour the creation the creation of stimulating visual imagery set to the new age piano music genre. Emergence also won best video for Digital Film which was directed by Markus Mayr begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting. Emergence is also selected in a compilation called Acoustic Visions. Music from Origin will be used by German company Cascade Medien regarding a documentary about European Gardens.
