Restlessness, passion, and irreverence are all elements of the human condition that have undoubtedly tinted and shaped the view in which multimedia artist Clifford Lidell sees his ability to effect the world. In 2008, in his usual unpredictably whimsical style of making a dent on the modern heart and mind, he began to gather his tools and craft a plan. The goal was to find meaning in the most natural of ways. Drawing from years of traditional arts training, housed in the shell of a modern man, he invented a style of opinion that would soon find its way onto wood and canvas. The result was an unmistakably recognizable portrait of pop culture. The style was bright and confident, using various techniques from graphic design to street art, and has been called, "viciously imaginative". It's a description that is justified. Lidell's work often incorporates heavy use of widely recognizable elements of celebrity and pop culture, resulting in outlandish collages of intricately detailed portraiture. 2009 saw the opening reception of Clifford's first collection and solo show, 'All My Friends Are Drunk Or Dead'. The show was an outstanding success, earning mention in two publications, dubbing Lidell, "a witty bastard" and "troublesome newcomer". Once again, fitting descriptions for the 23-year old artist who claims to operate purely on instinct while creating images of John Lennon sporting King Tut's headdress, and Michael Jackson's androgynous mug perfectly masking da Vinci's Mona Lisa, complete with shimmering silver glove.
