Syed Hanif , also known as DJ Cliq, began his journey
into the world of DJing and turntablism at the age of sixteen. A mere three
months at the Bionic DJ Academy were necessary for Cliq to acquire the basic
skills that enabled him to move on to bigger and better things.
Cliq's ability as a fast learner is apparent when one considers his first live show, which took place in front of a crowd of 5,000 people at Genting Elevation, only one year after he started DJing. During the event, Cliq
capably held his own alongside established DJs such as Spacebar and other
veteran members of the Loops Collective.
However, Genting Elevation was just the start for this up and coming
turntablist. By 2005, Cliq’s growing reputation in the Malaysian music scene
garnered the interest of a prominent underground hip-hop collective known as
The Rebel Scum. Cliq was immediately recruited, and The Rebel Scum has since
performed in a number of high profile events such as the Yogjakarta benefit
concert, and the Asian X-Games in 2006. More recently, Cliq and The Rebel
Scum performed at an official Nike Air Force One launch, which took place in
January of 2007.
Cliq is also a founding and current member of a progressive, drum ‘n’ bass
crew known as The Works. Furthermore, Cliq remains active as a solo
performer, and he is currently the reigning champion of the Malaysian DJ
Battle competition, which was held in 2006.
In addition to these accomplishments in the DJ scene, Cliq has also begun to
establish his reputation as a producer. Listeners will be able to experience
Cliq’s unique style of beat-making on the upcoming Rebel Scum album, ‘The
Time Has Scum’, which will be released in the summer of 2007. Audiences can
expect to hear a variety of influences in Cliq’s production work, which
includes elements of jazz, early ‘90s hip-hop, drum ‘n’ bass, funk and soul.
Perhaps this appreciation for a wide range of musical genres and styles can
be related to Cliq’s childhood and adolescent years, which were spent in
places as diverse as Japan, Indonesia, the USA and Malaysia. This type of
background has certainly contributed to Cliq's ultimate aim, which is to
broaden the horizons of his audience, by encouraging people of all
backgrounds to participate in music.
Hello, I've uploaded a new track. Well, not a new track actually. It's an old track but with better beats and quality. The track is called Sayang, Sayang, Sayang featuring Ozzy. Ozzy is a Malay femcee/singer from a tiny place called Perlis at the north region of Malaysia. It's a Malay romantic song I would say. I rap in Bahasa Pasar which is a language I use in my daily life. This is just to enable the listeners to understand the song straight away, No metaphors and such. This is a straightforward song. I hope you will like it. You can check the track at the links I've given below :
