"Currently better known as a founder and current member of prog experimentalists Arficeden, Closed Eyes Are Dancing is Stuart Metcalfe's electronic music side-project. This pretty much untitled collection of 5 set-pieces sinks the listener into the darker depths of electronica. Whether it’s rumbling or fizzling out its sounds, this mini-album is for the best part a digital, subdued, menace. A fatalistic soundtrack for modern life, it’s perhaps a peek at the more realistic situations in the world out there. Whilst we have a happy, smiley veneer that’s painted over most of our music, this is the sound of Cities that are bleak, haunted and quite possibly doomed. From the despair of Nitzer Ebb to the swirled, robotic sounds that have been utilized by bands like The Prodigy, one thing you shouldn’t expect here is a danceable beat. Disturbing and accomplished, this record is also wonderfully depressing."
