The Cloud Foundation was created by David and Aurélie Edwards in 1999 with a belief that the future of Boston lies in its young people. In 2000 Cloud Place was founded at 647 Boylston Street as a professional-quality venue for teen performances, studio practice, and arts exhibitions. Through Cloud Place, the Cloud Foundation grants space to other youth arts organizations to build a strong, interconnected youth arts community, encourage new interactions among diverse art programs, and to cultivate new audiences and advocates.
TEEN CURATORIAL PROGRAM
The Cloud Foundation’s Teen Curatorial Program gives young people from all over Boston a chance to share their opinions on art, film, performance, and design, and to mastermind shows that express their vision and reshape the way that people experience art. The 28 Teen Curators work with professional artists to create exhibitions, film screenings, and spoken word performances as part of YouthFusion at Cloud Place - a series of events that draws more than 200 young artists and 1,000 audience members yearly.
INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGES
All Cloud Foundation programming seeks to strengthen communication among young people across cultural barriers. The Cloud Foundation works closely with its sister foundation, Nuage-France to create opportunities for international dialogue among talented teen artists. Each summer, the Cloud Foundation sends a group of young artists from Boston to Paris to perform in a city cultural program, meet and work with French peers, and understand themselves in a new way through the vast cultural resources of Paris. Each fall Nuage sends a group of young artists from Paris to Boston. Parisian performers meet with local professionals for master classes, and collaborate with the teen groups who use Cloud Place.
