Headspin at The Bongo Club is one of the longest running and best loved clubs in Edinburgh. Widely recognised as an innovator, a groundbreaker and an institution, Headspin continues to push the boundaries and raises clubbing to an art form. Much more than just a feast for the ears, we also have visual projections and video feeds, mixed, looped and mutilated live to compliment and enhance the aural experience. Established in 1998, Headspin features a heady brew of the finest funk, hip hop, house and electro beats with percussive and visual backing to form an incredible spectacle of sound and vision.

HEADSPIN NEWS
Keeping it fresh and funky, Headspin at The Bongo Club is an innovator, a groundbreaker and an institution. Headspin continues to push the boundaries and raises clubbing to an art form. With multiple turntables, live percussion and visual projections mixed, looped and mutilated live to complement and enhance the aural experience, it's much more than just a feast for the ears.
September's Headspin by all accounts should have been a sedate, recovery oriented affair after the excesses of the Edinburgh Festival but it was anything but! The residents started things off with some proper funk and soon had the dancefloor grooving to the sounds. The atmosphere soon built up to fever pitch and the resident jocks unleashed their full electro house assault. Getting the big guns out towards the end of the night, there was no let up in the energy flowing in both directions between crowd and DJs. Not sedate; stimulating.
A huge night next up for Headspin. The legend that is Ashley Beedle comes to town and graces the Headspin turntables. Having been DJing since the 80s, this man is a true legend of the club scene. With a huge amount of remix work under his belt and productions and collaborations as Black Science Orchestra, The Ballistic Brothers, X-Press 2 and London Heavy Disco Revue amongst others, a new album with Horace Andy, 'Inspiration Information', and global DJ gigs, there can be no question about the calibre of this guest. Best known for spinning and producing heavy disco and house, Beedle is also grounded in the soundsystem vibes of reggae and hip hop. Sounds like a perfect match-up with Headspin and we can't wait to welcome him.
This year Headspin is having a Horrible Halloween party. The Headless Headspin Residents will provide the soundtrack, and freaky fancy dress costumes are encouraged, giving those that have made an effort ultra cheap entry.
Jon Carter rose to prominence as resident DJ at the legendary Heavenly Social before forming the Monkey Mafia who had a succession of monster dancehall-influenced singles and whose debut album united the critics in praise. Jon went on to play worldwide as tour DJ for The Prodigy as well as resident DJ at Bugged Out, Shine in Belfast and The Boutique in Brighton. Under the moniker of Junior Cartier, he released 'Women Beat Their Men'; a track inspired by the re-emergence of house music with real funk and energy. This year he has been playing festivals all over the summer and is now bringing the raw energy of his volatile 3 deck and keyboard set to the Bongo Club.
Here a nice interviews with some of the Headspin crew talking about the first 10 years of the club from The List and The Skinny magazines. You can also listen to a feature produced by Fresh Air about our 10th birthday that was broadcast on Vic Galloway's show on BBC Radio 1 on the music player at the top of this page.
