   Satyricon's Blurbs
About me:

This is a tribute/fan site for the legendary SATYRICON. For CURRENT Satyricon booking and calendar see www.myspace.com/satyriconpdx.

Beginning in 1983, the Satyricon was at the core of the local punk rock scene. Mixing visual art, poetry, and rock music, Satyricon offered a creative space for all kinds of artists.

Portland poet Walt Curtis wrote about Satyricon in Mala Noche, before filmmaker Gus Van Sant turned the book into his directorial debut. Legions of local luminaries, musicians, writers, artists, visiting celebrities and characters hung out here. Next door, the restaurant Fellini, featured more artistry, in both food and decor.

"There were plenty of great shows and crazy times," recalls Ben Munat, who once booked the club. "Naked Raygun with Soul Asylum. Mudhoney with Blood Circus. Helmet opening for Tad, all the Unsane shows, all the Jesus Lizard shows, and so many more."
from Willamette Week 14 May 2003
Original Satyricon booker Chris Monlux made no stylistic or hierarchical distinctions among bands, which meant that on any given night one might see a Folk duo, a Punk band and a top Blues outfit sharing a Satyricon bill in an evening of debauched musification.
from Two Louies Magazine 20 years of Two Louies

In 2003, George closed the club. But it will live on forever in Portland memory and legend.

About this space:
Maintained by someone who remembers the club, did some time there. (Erika) Like the club itself, I want this space to be a community effort. A place where people and bands can network and share Satyricon images, stories, history.

Who I'd like to meet:
People with Satyricon connections, stories, interest... NOTE: I have stopped automatically accepting add requests from non-Pacific NW bands. The noise-to-signal ratio is too great. However! if you are an out-of-the-area band and have some special association or interest in the (old) Satyricon, or if you really just love us so much... IOW, if you aren't just auto-adding... send message, so I can make an exception.

Hi all, take a look at a video i shot for a friend Matt Mccourt and his band Wild Dogs at the Portland hot spot, the Roseland Theater. This was shot multicamera (seven on this one). The audio was one heck of a job, done by Jason Bayne http://leviluniformthemagazine.com and take a look at more of my videos at the RockPDX main site at http://go.to/RockPDX

Hi Satyricon. You are full of ghosts for me. Funny how there always an element of "Death" at the club - with Skulls and black clothes and stuff, yet you were also so full of life. I can remember the first time I walked into you in February of 1984. AMazing, eh. Glad you're still alive. -Ed Jones
