   About Contemporary Music Centre, Ireland

The Contemporary Music Centre is Ireland's national archive and resource centre for new music, supporting the work of composers throughout the Republic and Northern Ireland.

The Centre is used, nationally and internationally, by performers, composers, promoters and members of the public interested in finding out more about music in Ireland. Its library and sound archive, open to the public free of charge, contain the only comprehensive collection in existence of music by Irish composers. Extensive reference and advice services are available and the Centre's web site provides access to CMC's resources for those who cannot visit in person.

The Contemporary Music Centre engages in an ongoing programme of development work to promote new Irish music at home and abroad, and is a member of the Forum for Music in Ireland and the International Association of Music Information Centres (IAMIC).

PIERROT LUNAIRE INTERNATIONAL COMPOSITION COMPETITION 2010

Composers from all over the world without age limitation - are invited to
present works for the Pierrot Lunaire Ensemble Wien ®. This competition for
chamber works will be open to composers of all nationalities.

Deadline for entries: January 31, 2010 (certified by the post office stamp)

Instruments: The compositions submitted for the competition must use ONLY
the following instruments, either together or in sectors, involving a
minimum of 2 performers and a maximum of 5, without conductor and without
vocal participation.

Flute (single performer including piccolo, G alto flute)
Clarinet in B-flat (single performer including A-clarinet and B-flat bass
clarinet)
Violin (single performer)
Cello (single performer)
Piano (single performer)

Prize for the winning Composition
1.Prize: Euro 5.000,- and minimum three performances by the Pierrot Lunaire
Ensemble Wien ® during its 2010-2011 international concert tour season.

The event will feature the return of saxophonist Bruce Coates, navigator of avant jazz and post-Cardew experimentalism, and the Irish debut of experimental vocalist and throat singer Jonny Marks. The event will feature the awe-inspiring virtuoso saxophonist Paul Dunmall.

The Lab will also feature appearances by visiting performers, drummer Mark Sanders and guitarist Jamie Smith, and Stet Lab (ir)regulars including Andrea Bonino, Han-earl Park, Paul Dowling, Neil O’Loghlen, Owen Sutton, Veronica Tadman and Kevin Terry.


Dunmall, Park, Sanders and Smith will also be performing at the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, UCC, Cork on Wednesday, 11 February at 1:10 pm as part of the UCC Concert Series.
