HOW THEY GOT STARTED
At the end of the 90s, the C.M.O.N.S. were just five friends living in Barcelona,
who all used to hang out at the same bar. According to the published
biographies, the bar they met at is the now famous Rossos, not far from
Barcelonas landmark las Ramblas. Even before breaking into the big time,
they all shared a love for street art. This love was always more artistic than
political. Nowadays, one can see more and more of the self-styled stickers
created by Red on European street corners. The friends quickly discovered
another common bond: rock music. It was only a question of time until
C.M.O.N.S. were born.
THE BAND C.M.O.N.S.
According to the legend, the bands first gig was an impromptu affair at the
turn of the century. White, Blue, Red and Moo were celebrating the new
millennium with friends at Rossos. There was a band playing: the srood,
with their infamously shy lead singer Nossirom. Cherri was absent, away
on a somewhat secretive date with someone from the music business.
It was 2.30 in the first morning of the new century when the door to Rossos
burst open and Cherri entered in full diva mode: screaming, crying and
throwing things. Moo hurried over with the others to try and ease her hysterics.
What exactly happened earlier that night is something that the C.M.O.N.S.
have kept secret till today. The fact is, shortly thereafter, Blue took to the stage,
grabbed the microphone and improvised the hit that ended up topping the
charts in 2000 for 4 weeks: Knit Me, Drive On The other C.M.O.N.S. grabbed t
he instruments laying around and let it rip - even Cherri joined in, reluctantly
at first, but then even she couldnt resist the groove. A record company
producer was among the party people who experienced the jam session.
He asked them for a demo. They quickly (and drunkenly) promised to bring
it by and then spent the next six days and nights in Blues photo studio
recording 11 new songs. They delivered their demo to Pinocchio Longnos
Records on January 10, 2000 - and signed their first contract two days later.
Their meteoric rise to the music Olympus is the stuff dreams are made of:
Golden Albums, a series of Number 1 Hits and the legendary concert at Live
- 8 Tokyo 2005. There is now even a street named after them in Barcelona.
Fans and critics are continually fascinated by the C.M.O.N.S. ability to turn
every gig into a magical moment. The C.M.O.N.S. are five exceptional
musicians that mesmerize audiences around the world with their special
blend of rock and art. MTV has long since taken note and is paying tribute to
these stars in their own online special. Always quick to keep things real,
drummer White wrote the following in one of his frequent guest columns
for various hipster music magazines: We have been so fucking lucky.
This has all been one hell of a ride. I cant really think of what is going to
happen next. I mean, I shook the Queens hand. Hmm, how bout a trip to
space station? Or maybe someone will name a car after us. Either way,
well be along for the ride.
