La Violencia: The Shocking And Bizarre True Story of the Last Great American Rock Band:
The sun was hot in India as Brian Avhad stood waiting for the bus. He had trained under the Swami for the last several years in the arts of music and lovemaking and was now eager to return to the U.S. and put his new skills to use. His dream was to start a rock band the likes of which the world had never seen. As he boarded the bus that hot afternoon he had no way of knowing what a strange journey he was about to embark .. a long but unsuccessful career on Broadway, Chris Mario was bored and disillusioned with the acting scene. His largest role had been an extra in Cats, and that had failed to win him the acclaim and respect he felt he deserved. One day after watching a Behind the Music marathon he decided to give up his dream of being and actor and picked up the guitar. It was about this time he ran into Brian Avhad who by now was making a modest living playing Indian folk songs in coffee shops around central Jersey. Their styles clicked instantly and they decided to start a band. Because they shared an angry, Spanish background, they called their new creation La Violencia (meaning the violence in Spanish) and began their search for a drummer.
Vinnie Avhad, Brian’s evil younger brother was their first and natural choice. Unfortunately at the time he was being held at the Mercer County collage finishing his schooling. After a dramatic break out, the trio fled to the Pine Barrens where they hid for several months while the heat died down. It was here that they met the Badger Brothers, Scratch and Sniff (aka Matt and Mike Doolan). When they weren’t drinking or making peanut butter, The Badger brothers spent their time singing weird little songs and throwing rocks at passing cars. Matt Doolan could hold a tune and Mike Doolan played a crude home made instrument he called “a bass” and the two completed the line up of what eventually would come to be called the last great American rock band.
The influences of La Violencia include the Pixies, Incubus, loud noises, Guitar Hero, alcohol, Donovan, Blind Melon, Indian classical and Rock music in general. They are currently based in the Hopewell Valley area of New Jersey.
