Irish politicians steal your money!

Enough is enough!
How much longer are the Irish public going to tolerate their politicians giving themselves too much wages and acting like royalty?
People are dying on the streets, cold, hungry and homeless.
What sort of people allows this to happen?
Why are the taxpayers of this country not protesting
about this?
Why are they allowing politicians to steal their money and live like kings while the country is in a dangerous, lawless state and so many people are living in poverty and squalor?
The level of politician’s wages needs to be capped to a reasonable level like E500 a week. They are, after all supposed to be civil servants and not royalty.
While politicians are given such high wages, as they are now, the job is mostly going to attract greedy, selfish and corrupt individuals, of the type that is in government at present, and has been as long as this writer can remember.
When will the Irish taxpayers get up off their lazy, fat arses and protest on the streets, to make right this disgusting and corrupt evil that the politicians are flaunting in our faces?
Stop drinking so much, get out on the streets, and start protesting for a fair Ireland that we can all be proud of!
DUBLIN, Ireland — Prime Minister Bertie Ahern gave himself a hefty pay increase Thursday, putting his salary higher than both President Bush and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.
Ireland's 14 Cabinet members and 20 lower-ranking ministers also awarded themselves raises, a move that opposition lawmakers branded as perverse and unjustifiable.
The pay hikes in Ireland -- a country that already boasts some of the world's best-paid politicians -- were recommended in an experts' report on keeping pay of senior government employees competitive with that of the private sector.
Ahern, Ireland's leader since 1997, will see his annual salary rise 14 percent to $444,000 -- more than Bush ($400,000), Brown ($387,000) and a host of other European leaders.
Deputy Prime Minister Brian Cowen, who is also the finance minister, will have his pay rise 15.6 percent to $387,000. The other Cabinet members and lower-ranking ministers are getting 12 percent raises to $344,000 and $236,000 each, respectively.
The politicians' pay rises resonate in Ireland, a country with a tradition of national wage pacts unique in Europe. The current pact offers about 700,000 unionized workers raises of less than 5 percent annually, a reward wiped out by a similar rate of inflation.
Richard Bruton, finance spokesman for the main opposition Fine Gael party, said Ahern's crowded Cabinet would cost taxpayers more than $10.3 million a year.
"This has all the hallmarks of a government that is now drunk on power and completely divorced from reality," Bruton said. He said politicians should observe salary restraint "at a time when we are suffering from health cutbacks, record murder rates, crowded schools and are told that there are tough times ahead."
Sinn Fein lawmaker Arthur Morgan noted that Ahern's raise was about $10,000 more than the average annual salary in Ireland.
"The government cannot in one breath award themselves substantial pay increases and in another tell ordinary people to tighten their belts for the hard times ahead. Such arrogance and complete disrespect for ordinary people cannot go unchallenged," Morgan said.
Ahern and other government ministers declined to comment on the raises.
The pay rises could have even been higher: The six-member expert panel discounted its recommended salary hikes by 15 percent because state-paid employees have superior pensions than most private-sector counterparts.
The announced raises were scheduled to come into force in three steps over the next 18 months. The report covered the 1,600 highest-ranking state employees, including doctors and hospital administrators, senior police officers and judges, who got raises of up to 22.4 percent.
Ahern's Fianna Fail party, which has won the most seats in parliament in every election since 1932, returned to power in May atop a three-party government. Earlier this week, Cowen warned the public to expect a tighter budget in December because the long-booming economy was slowing down.

neutrality? ireland is nothing but a prostitute for u.s.a. business!!!
u.s.a. president george w. bush this week visited shannon airport, ireland, unannounced to the public, for a photo shoot with 200 american marines, one assumes to promote the invasion of iraq. not announcing the visit guarenteed that protests would not happen, and ireland would look to the world as a supporter of u.s.government war policys.
this visit was alowed by irelands present government, who don't seem to understand what a 'neutral' country actually is. compare this with switzerland, which is neutral country, and will not allow a plane from a country involved in aggressive conflict to even fly over their air space, never mind land on their soil. this obviously prevents either side of the conflict gaining an advantage by lending assistance.
the irish government is unfortunetly opening a door to extreme-muslem terrorism to shannon airport, and ireland in general, by their blatent willful ignorence. in this writer's opinion, the reason for this, is that, if the irish government refuse the u.s. president's wishes, bush will influence american businesses to pull out of ireland, and thus have a negative effect on ireland's economy.
personally speaking, this writer thinks it is a small price to pay for real neutrality, and peaceful existance. after all there are plenty of other countries in the world to do business with that don't keep interfering with, and bullying other nations, fueled by paranoia, ignorence and greed.
the irish people want a real neutral ireland and not an 'aircraft carrier of war', that can be used by war mongers for a price.

Attack on Iran
George Bush is gearing up to attack Iran and has refused to rule out using nuclear weapons. Condoleeza Rice wants a resolution under Chapter 7 of the UN charter – the same move that lead to the bombing and invasion of Iraq. Just like in Iraq the US case for war is built on lies.
Lie 1: Weapons of mass destruction - Iran is a nuclear threat
The International Atomic Energy Agency said this April that there is no proof that Iran has a nuclear weapons programme. Even the US Pentagon says Iran is 10 years away from making a nuclear bomb. Iran’s pursuit of nuclear technology is a direct result of US belligerence. The US is building massive permanent military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan – on Iran’s borders, and has stated they want regime change in Iran. Given this it is only logical that Iran would attempt to acquire nuclear technology to defend itself. The way to avoid a nuclear Middle East is for the US to withdraw its troops and bases from the region.
Lie 2: Breaking UN resolutions - Iran has broken the Non Proliferation Treaty (NPT)
The US and the media claim Iran have broken the nuclear NPT by enriching uranium and are demanding UN resolutions authorising force against Iran. But any country can develop nuclear technology for power generation if they wish without braking any treaties. Iran has not broken or pulled out of the NPT. Meanwhile Israel, the US’s key ally in the region, refuses to sign up to the treaty and has over 200 warheads threatening Arab states including Iran.
Lie 3: The US is a force for disarmament and global stability
The countries that are breaking the NPT are the US and its ally Britain. They are building a new generation of nuclear missiles – Trident D-II. The US has over 10,000 nuclear warheads, 5000 ready to launch. The US has withdrawn from the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaties designed to reduce the number of nuclear warheads in the world. The US has re-launched its ‘Star-Wars’ programme to militarise space – including with nuclear weapons. US aggression has initiated a new global arms race, especially in nuclear weapons – the only deterrent the US listens to.
Lie 4: Spreading freedom and democracy
The US wants to paint Iran as a fascist state with Ahnadinejad as the new Hitler (just like Saddam before him). Iran is a modern country with over 90% literacy level and a young educated population. It is one of the more democratic states in the Middle East. Iran has democratic elections and a powerful reform movement, unlike Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar – all US allies. It is the US and its allies that are undemocratic. When Hamas won the election in Palestine the US and Europe condemned the result. In Iraq the US are trying to rig the parliament and refuse to work with the current prime minister Al’Jaffari who they don’t like. A war with Iran will suppress the democracy movement, not help it.
Lie 5: Islam is the enemy of civilisation
The western media have launched a racist campaign against Muslims and Islam. This Islamaphobia is the same old colonial superiority in new language. The modern world and the enlightenment could not have happened without the influence of Arab culture. Islam is no more fundamentalist than Christianity as a religion. In fact it is George Bush who claims he is on a mission from God to wage war in the Middle East.
Lie 6: US Military use of Shannon Airport is not important
Over 160,000 US troops have passed through Shannon Airport in the first quarter of 2006 alone – a 100% increase on last year. Ireland is now the key staging post for US troops on their way to the Middle East. Bertie Ahern has made Irish neutrality a joke. Ahern is supporting George Bush and his war drive against Iran by continuing to offer Shannon to the US Military. Given the record of lies about Iraq, he should immediately withdraw the use of Shannon from the US Military.
Lie 7: Demonstrating about it will change nothing
150,000 marched against the war in Iraq and it still happened. The government didn’t listen. WRONG. The mass demonstrations brought a political crisis. Bush has the lowest opinion poll rating of any president, ever. Blair is known as a lickspittle and a liar. Shannon has been a permanent feature of politics in Ireland – FF lost 10% support due to it. The recent demonstrations in France shows that protest work – we need to stay on the streets this time to make sure the government listens to us, just like they did in France.
