By the age of 18, the average North American has witnessed 200,000 acts of violence on television . . . most of them occuring during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.

Movies
I love going to movies with my wife. In fact, I have to go to the movies with my wife because if she isn't there to watch out for me I eat hot buttered popcorn until I explode (which is, needless to say, very messy for the other patrons). In my estimation the greatest films of all-time are (in some kind of order): The Mission, The Passion of the Christ, Miracle, Friday Night Lights, Saving Private Ryan, United 93, Gladiator, Ferris Beuler's Day Off, Glory, Monty Python's Holy Grail, Shadowlands, Life is Beautiful, Master and Commander, End of the Spear, A Beautiful Mind, Gattica, Slapshot, Lord of the Rings, Raising Arizona, Mystery Alaska, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Signs, Madagascar, The Matrix, Star Wars, Unbreakable, 12 Angry Men, Saints and Soldiers, Cinderella Man, High Noon, and Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers.
Television
I despise TV -- its a mind-wasting time-sink fit only for monosynaptic pander monkeys. That is . . . unless there's a good game on. . . or The Office.
Books
Here is a very incomplete list of some of the books that have been most important and influential in my life (in no particular order): Mere Christianity; Being and Time; The Lord of the Rings; Darwinian Fairytales; Totality and Infinity; A Song of Fire and Ice; Liberal Fascism; The Phenomenology of Perception; Truth and Method; The Design Revolution; The Sickness Unto Death; Gretzky: An Autobiography; The Boys of Winter; The Crown of Stars; The Book of Mormon and the Bible; By the Hand of Mormon; The Passion of the Western Mind; The Screwtape Letters; An Intellectual History of Psychology (Robinson); Darwin on Trial; Freud and Philosophy; Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead; Lehi in the Desert and the World of the Jaredites; After Virtue; Most Moved Mover; etc. etc. etc.
Heroes
In No Particular Order: Mario Lemieux, Soren Kierkegaard, Emmanuel Levinas, Joseph Smith, My Wife, My Dad, Hoobis, C. S. Lewis, My Mom, Abraham Lincoln, Sidney Crosby, Claude Monet, Emily Dickinson, William James, William Dembski, Thomas Aquinas, Richard Williams, Mother Teresa, Brigham Young, J. R. R. Tolkien, Martin St. Louis, Henry V, Gerald Manley Hopkins, William Shakespeare, Vincent Van Gogh, and Tarby the Wonder Weasel.

About me: My name is Ed Gantt. I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and I am an Associate Professor of Theoretical and Philosophical Psychology at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. I live in Springville, Utah with my wife (Anita) and four sons: Jared (19), Mark (16), Ben (14), and Stephen (8). I just recently stepped down as the head coach of the Brigham Young University Cougars (Men's Hockey Team) to take over the bench for the Provo Predators Bantam AA hockey team. I was also the head coach the Lehi High School Pioneers Hockey Team for three years. As you can easily tell just by glancing around this site, hockey is a major part of my life and the life of my family: I coach, Anita manages, and the boys play -- all the time (at very competitive levels). I have numerous professional and scholarly publications (one book, lots of invited chapters, and numerous peer-reviewed articles). I really enjoy teaching college-level courses on the History of Psychology, Philosophy of Social Science, Qualitative Research Methods, LDS Perspectives on Psychology, and the Book of Mormon. I also suspect that I may be the only 40+ year-old man on MySpace.com who isn't lying about his identity in order to commit a crime or make a buck.
