COALHOUSE may have had its initial conception in the spring of 2002 but this is where the story really starts.............
COALHOUSE garnered its inception when Jim Burke read the novel ragtime by E.L. Doctrow. COALHOUSE was a character in the book that made a stand for his belief's, something that resonated through the singer songwriter.
Initially started with a line up of friends, COALHOUSE quickly recorded their first album, Curiouser and Curiouser, an eclectic blend incorporating mandolin folk blues and ultra modern rock styling. Unfortunately this line up was not to last.
Jim and Ste started work on a follow up album with producer Sir cousin' be-bop. This developed into the lush and diverse sound of JIGSAW WORLD, "The songs come first for us",say's jim. "It doesn't matter if its jazz,blues,country or classical, we know what a song requires for it to come alive".
With the new album JIGSAW WORLD,came a new line up adding drummer Lewis O'neill and singer Jo Waldron.The band has developed a tight funky angular live sound, which incorporates all the hallmarks of classic song writing,with a post-modernist irony. Influenced by artists ranging from Robert Johnson to Beck and all in between the band are ready to bite the cherry and do so with aplomb
