'...imagine a world without suffering'
Hi, I'm Sally Hayward, Vice President of the Coation for Animal Justice.
>
I'd like to share this special rescue after the tornado in Greensburg, Kansas. Keep in mind, these animals have never met before.
Rescures found this dog first and named him Ralphie
Next they found this beagle
And then....they are no longer alone
Added 2 more beagle to the mix....and a cat
How's this going to work? Just fine....instant friends!
Wow! The things we learn from our animal friends...
If only all of mankind could learn such valuable lessons
as this. Lessons of instant friendship. Of peace and harmony
by way of respect for one another -- no matter one's color or creed.

Protect Your Rights To Speak Out for Animals
Congress is in the midst of passing legislation that would severely hamper the rights of animal welfare advocates to voice their opinions on animal protection issues throughout the country. The Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA) S. 3880 / H.R. 4239 will set penalties (jail time and fines) for any action that can be linked to a loss of profit to any company classified as an "animal enterprise". An "animal enterprise" would include anyone who produces or distributes animals or products from animals, animal entertainment - including rodeos, circuses, zoos or aquariums, research facilities, pet stores and even animal fighting. This means that legal activities such as peaceful protests, consumer boycotts, media campaigns legislative proposals, or even telling the public what happens in puppy mills, factory farms, or canned hunting facilities, could be classified as acts of terrorism.
This dangerous legislation has already passed the full Senate, and will be considered by the House of Representatives when they reconvene in November. Your voice is needed to help ensure that animal welfare advocates can continue to voice our concerns in a lawful and constitutionally protected way. Please urge your member of Congress to strongly oppose the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act (AETA).
Urge him or her to strongly oppose H.R. 4239. Let your representative know that this legislation seeks to squelch our first amendments rights of freedom of speech. Just edit the email below and hit send.
Then follow up with a very quick polite phone call to your representative. You can find your representative's phone number by going to www.congress.org. All you need to say is:
"Hi, my name is ____, and I live at _________. I am calling to urge Representative……. To strongly oppose HR 4239, entitled the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act. This legislation seeks to criminalize the most basic and protected elements of free speech."
I have taken the pictures of the Chinese kitten killer off of this profile and they are now in my blog. It was just too much to ask anyone to look at every time they came here. This is a link to the full video of the kitten killer

There are many different reasons why individuals abuse animals. Animal cruelty covers a wide range of actions (or lack of action), so one blanket answer simply isn’t possible. Each type of abuse has displayed certain patterns of behavior that we can use to help understand more about why people commit the crimes we encounter today.
Animal cruelty is often broken down into two main categories: active and passive, also referred to as comission and omission, respectively.
Passive Cruelty (Acts of Omission)
Passive cruelty is typified by cases of neglect, where the crime is a lack of action rather than the action itself - however do not let the terminology fool you. Severe animal neglect can cause incredible pain and suffering to an animal.
Examples of neglect are starvation, dehydration, parasite infestations, allowing a collar to grow into an animal’s skin, inadequate shelter in extreme weather conditions, and failure to seek veterinary care when an animal needs medical attention.
In many cases of neglect where an investigator feels that the cruelty occurred as a result of ignorance, they may attempt to educate the pet owner and then revisit the situation to check for improvements. In more severe cases however, exigent circumstances may require that the animal is removed from the site immediately and taken in for urgent medical care.
Active Cruelty (Acts of Comission)
Active cruelty implies malicious intent, where a person has deliberately and intentionally caused harm to an animal, and is sometimes referred to as NAI (Non-Accidental Injury). Acts of intentional cruelty are often some of the most disturbing and should be considered signs of serious psychological problems. This type of behavior is often associated with sociopathic behavior and should be taken very seriously.
Animal abuse in violent homes can take many forms and can occur for many reasons. Many times a parent or domestic partner who is abusive may kill, or threaten to kill, the household pets to intimidate family members into sexual abuse, to remain silent about previous or current abuse, or simply to psychologically torture the the victims, flexing their "power".
Animal abuse is practically legal in the United States but most people aren't aware of it. The problem is that the laws are weak and those enforcing them too often let animal abusers off with a slap on the wrist. Most people convicted of violent crimes against companion animals spend NO time in jail. Why? Because "it was just an animal".
The Coalition for Animal Justice is dedicated to fighting cruelty against species traditionally classified as companion animals. Our goal is to ensure that people who commit violent crimes against companion animals spend time in prison. We monitor cruelty cases nationwide and urge police, judges and prosecutors to take animal cruelty cases seriously. We are working for a federal law to impose a mandatory 5 year prison sentence for anyone convicted of aggravated animal cruelty.
WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO OF ABUSED ANIMALS...THIS IS THE REALITY OF ANIMAL ABUSE! IF WE CLOSE OUR EYES TO THIS, WE CLOSE OUR EYES TO THEM!
They just want to be loved....
Current laws against animal cruelty are are far too weak. A person who commits a violent and heinous act against an innocent animal rarely gets much more than a slap on the wrist and a warning. Here are some examples.
A man in Geneva Ohio beat a dog nearly to death causing severe head trauma and broken bones. He was given 2 months of jail time and one year of probation. He was also ordered to undergo psychiatric counseling and to pay the dog's owner $1,000 for vet bills. The actual bills were over $3,000. (source)
In Maryland, a landlord entered his tenant's property, took 2 of her cats, killed them with a shotgun and threw their bodies in a creek. Despite the felony status of such a crime in Maryland the defendant was acquitted over lack of definition of the phrase "cruelly kills". (source)
Even if you are not an animal lover, consider the impact of animal cruelty on people. When a person's pet is brutally tortured or killed for no reason, that person suffers a deep anguish that lasts for many years. These crimes are not just against animals. When these crimes take place there are human victims too.
This is from the National Crime Prevention Council : "The Humane Society of the United States points to the long list of serial killers who began their career by torturing and killing pets: Jeffery Dahmer spent his youth decapitating dogs and staking cats to trees. Ted Bundy tortured his pets and also witnessed his father's brutality toward animals. Many children who are being abused by their caregivers will act out by abusing their pets. Juvenile animal abuse should be taken very seriously and followed up with a screening of the child for abuse."
Every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind... what we sow is what we reap. And when we choose actions that bring happiness and success to others, the fruit of our karma is happiness and success.
I will put the Law of Karma into effect by making a commitment to take the following steps:
1. Today I will witness the choices I make in each moment. And in the mere witnessing of these choices, I will bring them into my conscious awareness.
I will know that the best way to prepare for any moment in the future is to be fully conscious in the present.
2. Whenever I make a choice, I will ask myself two questions: "What are the consequences of this choice that I am making?" and "Will this choice bring fulfillment and happiness to me and also to those who are affected by this choice?"
3. I will then ask my heart for guidance and be guided by its message of comfort or discomfort. If the choice feels comfortable, I will plunge ahead with abandon. If the choice feels uncomfortable, I will pause and see the consequences of my action with my inner vision. This guidance will enable me to make spontaneously correct choices for myself and those around me.
Dear all, just received this and you bet I'll be signing the petition -
From Vesna Jones -
Dear friends, this is very cruel and sad. An "artist" from Costa Rica, named Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, put a starved dog as a work of art, the poor dog died there, he did not want anyone give him food or water. This monster asked some children to chase the dog and he paid them for their dirty work to give him the dog.
In that event, (in which the dog died) he was chosen to represent his country in the "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008", the petition site is to sign to boycott him , so he won't can participate in the event:
Location: Centro Nacional de la Cultura Antigua Fábrica Nacional de Licores. Avenida 3, calle 15/17. San José, Costa Rica. Teléfono: (506) 257 7202 / 257 9370 Fax: (506) 257 8702
Sample Letter to Send the Gallery I am writing regarding the horrifying actions of Guillermo Habacuc Vargas, who paid local children to catch a dog on the street and then confined, starved and publicly displayed the dog as an "art" exhibit until the innocent animal died of starvation.
I along with many people world wide am outraged that Guillermo habacuc Vargas has been selected to represent Costa Rica in "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008",This man is by no definition of the word an artist he is a criminally insane sadist and enjoys inflicting prolonged suffering upon his innocent victims.he is a danger to all of society as it is well documented that those with the capacity to intentionally cause harm to an animal have the same capacity to harm humans.
To state that this animal would have died eventually of natural causes is unjustifiable and beyond logical, rational thinking.
To allow Guillermo habacuc Vargas to represent Costa Rica in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 will in no way benefit Costa Rica, the world is watching and the actions of this so called artist has brought much negative assumptions as to the humanity of the people of Costa Rica and the fact that the many witnesses of this animals suffering did nothing and that the organizers of this event allowed this rather than taking action to see that Guillermo Vargas be criminally charged with animal abuse is sending the world a message that Costa Rica consists of a cruel, uncivilized society that has no regard for life but enjoys viewing and contributing to the loss of life.
Each and every person who knew of and witnessed the suffering of this innocent dog is equally as guilty of causing it's uncalled for death. And to let this crime go unpunished and instead be awarded by Guillermo Vargas representing Costa Rica in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008 is unacceptable and shameful not only to Costa Rica but to all participants of this event.
I urge you,do not condone the heinous actions of Guillermo Vargas by allowing him to participation in Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008.He should be jailed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of law for this animals death, not representing Costa Rica as an artist for he is not an artist and to refer to him as such is an insult to all true artists.
Sincerely, Your Name
ANOTHER GALLERY SHOWING HIS WORK this is the email addy to a gallery which currently holds some of vargas' work for display and for sale if anyone would like to ask the gallery to drop him from their list of artists their email address is below.

INFORMATION ABOUT EXHIBIT What he says on his blog (translated) Located Here According to I knew the dog died on the following day by lack of food. During the inauguration I knew that the dog was persecuted in the evening between the houses of aluminum and cardboard of a district of Managua with santo name who Habacuc that could not need at the moment. 5 children of whom they helped in the capture received 10 bonds of córdobas by their collaboration. During the exhibition some people requested the freedom of the small dog, to which he artist rehuso. The name of the dog was (it was) Natividad, and I let myself to him die of at sight hunger of all, as if the death of a poor dog was a shameless mediatic show in which nobody does nothing else that to applaud or to watch disturbed. Definitively we are what leimos: pure croquetas. In the place that the dog was exposed single it has left a metal cable and a cord. The dog was extremely ill, renqueaba and it did not want to eat anyway, so in natural surroundings it had died anyway; but thus they are all the poor dogs: sooner or later they die or they die them.
THIS IS ADAM. HE WAS SET ON FIRE BY TWO TEENAGE GIRLS AFTER THEY FOUND HIM IN A LIVE TRAP. He was found by an 11-year-old boy and his friend, they said they saw the smoke and heard the cat shrieking while the girls laughed. What can you do about it? You can sign the petition and help put in motion laws that will double the maximum sentence time for animal abuse cases. Six years may not seem like much, but it's a lot better than three.

Adam Petition and call for National Alert System PLEASE REPOST and repost
We are working to create a National Registry to warn neighbors when a convicted abuser moves into their neighborhood or community!
That is what my radio interview was about last night, tomorrow night we who are intimately involved with Adam will have a local meeting to talk to legislators about this idea Cathy and I came up with: I will be following up by sending this letter to local newspapers as well as the National Enquirer as they recently had a feature about animal abuse. I request others who wish to send this letter to their local newspapers to do so, please do not edit it to remove our names or contact information. Here is the letter:
Little Adam is more than a name. He is a story—a compelling story of trust betrayed. He is a tiny fraction of the animals who fall victim to horrific abuse. To date most abusers and killers walk free, able to stalk another animal, or human, which ever is the easiest next victim. The only thing victims have in common is they are totally at our mercy—it is up to us to protect them.
Our beloved pet or our neighbor's stray could be the next—abuse is no respecter of a person's status, ethnicity, income, or neighborhood. Abuse can happen to anyone. It happened recently to a 17 year-old girl's therapy dog whose head was delivered to her gift wrapped, it happen to a wealthy woman I know quite well, her dog choked by an jealous husband. The law defining and governing animal abuse is weak and inconsistent — most torturers, killers, and potential killers are still free to destroy lives. Seeking revenge is fruitless—we're calling for ACTION to protect animals AND people!
Recently Maximus was tied up, doused with gasoline and sixty percent of his body was burned. Even with horrific burns, broken teeth, and puncture wounds on his neck Maximus spirit wasn't broken—he wagged his tail as his burns were treated. Reed Zaroff one of the veterinarians said: "He was a good dog up until the very end ... giving licks and kisses." Those of us who knew of his plight grieve deeply, while all too many people remain blissfully unaware of how common this is. Few dared to look at the pictures of his burned body we published.
Many of you are familiar with little Adam, a feral kitten set on fire while trapped inside a cage. Oddly he's one of the lucky ones expected to live with plenty of offers of a forever home. Sarah, the woman who found Adam called our non-profit, Kindness of Strangers, before the story broke the news—we spoke for hours so I am very familiar with the whole story—the news, thus far, never mentioned the other trapped kitten who died, and rarely mentions the several kittens who are still missing. Does the news mention the kitten on July 4th who was killed by igniting fireworks in her mouth?
Time will not let me go on, and on, and on about the cases I see each day—so I will spare you.
The laws in this country need to change rapidly. Each moment, we who work to help animals, dread another abuse case, another heart-breaking story of an animal that deserved only love, another animal we couldn't save, another who died knowing only pain and abandonment.
The law needs to treat every single case of animal abuse as a human case—if it does not, we'll continue to have human cases. Charles Manson and Jeff Domner are just two examples of serial killers who first started by torturing animals. A study of murders and sadists clearly shows first victims are usually animals—when a human is not available they find someone no one cares about, a homeless person, neglected child, an elder, a prostitute, or an animal.
Study an animal abuser and you'll find a trail of suffering that knows no species barrier. How many cases will it take, how many animals and people must suffer and die before the law changes to protect animals and people?
We need a law that alerts citizens to protect us from abusers. Kindness of Strangers proposes a National Animal Abuse Registry with the name and most current address of each person convicted of inflicting harm on an animal. We need to know if our community or neighborhood is vulnerable
Animal lovers are especially vulnerable as the dog recently skinned alive in Benton Georgia so graphically illustrates. A National Animal Abuse Registry neighborhood alert, similar to the one warning of child sexual abusers is an extremely valuable tool to protect our loved ones, whether animals or the children who love them. It will enable the authorities to rapidly locate and question known abusers and serve well as a deterrent. It will also be very useful to shelters, rescues, and individuals seeking to re-home animals.
Society needs to wake-up—I received a call asking about the therapy dog who was killed. The well-informed caller stated the news is not covering this case.
My associates are a rapidly growing force of ordinary concerned citizen volunteers on myspace; we know all too well what the general public is blissfully unaware of.
All of these cases I skimmed over and many, many more can be verified, you may go to our growing blog where we document them as fast as we are able.
Society needs to be educated and help us change the laws before another beloved pet or loved one's name and face becomes the victim with a story and their fate becomes as horrific as the stories behind the faces of Maxmius, Adam or the little forgotten kitten who was burned to death trapped in a cage with Adam.

Below is information on the "PHILIPPINES DOG MEAT MARKET"
*I cant get these images out of my mind. It's been like a movie re-running over and over every second of the day. The treatment and the cruelity to the dogs in the Philippines is barbarous! Anyone being this merciless in my opinion, are evil savages, brutal heartless and uncivilized. They must take joy in being so inhumane and inflicting such pain and suffering. Please sign the petition and help put an end to this evil butchering.

'Without our help, this slaughter will continue'
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/985195393
It is estimated that around 500 000 dogs are killed annually in the Philippines for human consumption. Eating dogs has been illegal since 1998, but because of a lack of enforcement, live dogs and dog meat are sold openly in the market place and restaurants. Although the vast majority of Filipinos don’t consume dogs, the lucrative trade in dog meat is becoming more prevalent, especially in the north of the Philippines in the region surrounding Baguio City. Here dogs are treated as nothing more than objects.
Crammed so tightly into wire cages they cannot move, struggling for every breath in the stifling heat with their mouths tied shut, dogs are riped on, gutted, deskined and cutted while they are still alive and conscious.
(information has been taken from Global Action Network homepage - www.gan.ca)
These images below show just a small part of the suffering these dogs endure everyday.....
Unfortunately Photobucket has decided this last picture of the dogs being slaughtered alive is unsuitable for veiwing. Yes, it is horrible...and it is the reality of the situation. Without public knowledge of these actions, nothing will be done to stop it....and that's another sad fact of reality.
Please help these and all animals that suffer by the hands of humans!

Just a test to see how one would react to blindness...this is Britches. He was born in this lab at the University Of california Riverside. Taken immediately after birth from her mother and subjected to cruel and heartless tests to see if he might learn something new to help blind people. He had no comforts in her cold bare cage and was kept in complete solitaire for 5 weeks with this thing on her head. After interveiwing blind people about this, they thought it was ridiculous to waste $275,000 of tax payers money to preform a test for the blind on a monkey that couldnt communicate how it was feeling or what it was learning.....they could tell scientists that information themselves. Britches was rescued by animal rights activists.
>
Britches story does not end there. He had a rough start in his new life after his liberation. He was taken to a sanctuary that was in horrible conditions, but through the work of a team of wonderful people, Britches now lives as a monkey should. He swings through the trees and knows what grass feels like under his feet. We must not forget about these rescued animals after their liberation. We must make sure they live the live they deserve.

Just by putting these pictures, here I am feeling very ill right now. Can you imagine how these poor animals feel everyday of their lives? Cruelty in any form is abuse and it will only stop if we get involved and take action. Please help!
Many studies in psychology, sociology, and criminology during the last 25 years have demonstrated that violent offenders frequently have childhood and adolescent histories of serious and repeated animal cruelty. The FBI has recognized the connection since the 1970s, when its analysis of the lives of serial killers suggested that most had killed or tortured animals as children. Other research has shown consistent patterns of animal cruelty among perpetrators of more common forms of violence, including child abuse, spouse abuse, and elder abuse. In fact, the American Psychiatric Association considers animal cruelty one of the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder.
If you break it down to its bare essentials:
"Abusing an animal is a way for a human to find power/joy/fulfillment through the torture of a victim they know cannot defend itself."
Now break down a human crime, say rape. If we substitute a few pronouns, it's the SAME THING.
"Rape is a way for a human to find power/joy/fulfillment through the torture of a victim they know cannot defend themselves."
Now try it with, say, domestic abuse such as child abuse or spousal abuse:
"Child abuse is a way for a human to find power/joy/fulfillment through the torture of a victim they know cannot defend themselves."
Do you see the pattern here?
The line separating an animal abuser from someone capable of committing human abuse is much finer than most people care to consider. People abuse animals for the same reasons they abuse people. Some of them will stop with animals, but enough have been proven to continue on to commit violent crimes to people that it's worth paying attention to.
Virtually every serious violent offender has a history of animal abuse in their past, and since there's no way to know which animal abuser is going to continue on to commit violent human crimes, they should ALL be taken that seriously. FBI Supervisory Special Agent Allen Brantley was quoted as saying "Animal cruelty... is not a harmless venting of emotion in a healthy individual; this is a warning sign..." It should be looked at as exactly that. Its a clear indicator of psychological issues that can and often DO lead to more violent human crimes.
As powerful a statement as the high-profile examples above make, they don't even begin to scratch the surface of the whole truth behind the abuse connection. Learning more about the animal cruelty/interpersonal violence connection is vital for community members and law enforcement alike.
Who I'd like to meet:
Kittens like this one are killed at the hands of abusers everyday
The Federal Law We Propose:
The Companion Animal Protection Act
Declarations of Purpose:
There is abundant evidence that there is a nationwide problem of intentional acts of violence and cruelty against companion animals. The vast majority of offenders do not receive adequate punishment. Many of those who have committed acts of cruelty, as defined in Section 2 below, have been given probation, a small fine or no punishment at all. At present, the state laws carry only maximum sentences which means that there is a ceiling on the punishment and the offenders can easily be let off the hook. We propose a federal law that imposes a mandatory minimum sentence for intentional acts of cruelty and violence against companion animals. This law is designed to prevent, deter and punish anyone who commits a violent or sadistic act against those species traditionally classified as companion animals, as defined in Section 1 below.
Definitions:
1) Companion Animal: All animals commonly thought of as pets including, but not limited to, cats, dogs, horses, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, pet birds, and aquaruim fish.
2) Cruelty: Any act committed by a person with the intention of causing injury or death to a companion animal including, but not limited to, mutilation, torture, rape, sodomy, setting on fire, burning alive, kicking, hitting, punching, strangling, tail pulling, dogfighting, use as bait or food for other animals, stepping or stomping on, poisoning, smashing against walls or concrete or other hard surfaces, decapitation, amputation of limbs, removal of internal organs, skinning, removal of ears or tails or eyes or other body parts, spraying with caustic substanes.
Sentencing:
Cruelty to companion animals as defined in this Act will carry a mandatory prison sentence of not less than 5 years and up to a maximum of 25 years without possibility for parole. A second conviction will carry a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years and up to a maximum sentence of 50 years without possibility for parole.
Our goal is to be a voice for companion animals and to seek justice on their behalf by working for maximum jail sentences for those who abuse them. We aim to increase public awareness of the frequency of violent crimes against animals and to raise consciousness of the correlation between animal abuse and violent behavior toward people.
Objectives:
1) To work for a federal law called the Companion Animal Protection Act that imposes a mandatory minimum five year prison sentence for anyone convicted of violent or sadistic acts of cruelty against companion animals.
2) To work with humane society investigators, law enforcement officials and prosecutors to obtain information pertinent to animal cruelty cases throughout the United States.
3) To urge prosecutors and judges to work toward getting the toughest possible sentences for those who commit violent acts of cruelty to companion animals and toeducate the general public of the prevalence of such crimes.
4) To educate the public about abuse prevention and to offer a means for people to report abuse.
5) To educate the public about the statistical correlation between violent acts against animals and violent acts against people.
6) To encourage others to join our efforts to seek justice for companion animals that have been abused, tortured or killed.
7) To encourage people to spay & neuter their pets, watch out for their safety, and not to view them as disposable.
