About me:

COBU, which is translated as “Dance like Drumming, Drum like Dancing”, was founded in 2000 by STOMP veteran Yako Miyamoto. It is an exceptional performance troupe that combines traditional Japanese Taiko drumming with American funk tap dance. The company has performed throughout the US to rave reviews. “Powerful, primal and exotic, but simultaneously lighthearted, fun and familiar.” – Laurel Graeber, The New York Times “Wondrous beyond words…As fun to listen to as it is to watch.” – Amanda Scarpone, BroadwayWorld.com COBU's newest show is ICHIDA NYUKON, translated “One Beat. One Soul.”, features the company’s distinctive blend of traditional Japanese Taiko drumming and American funk tap dance. The young, cutting edge Japanese ensemble presents a visual and musical feast for audiences of all ages. Using Japanese Taiko drums, African djembe drums, thick wooden drumsticks, hand-held wooden clappers and samisen (Japanese banjo), the group of seven women and two men, sporting dynamic traditional and modern costumes and dramatically dyed hair, take the audience on a journey through the senses with their highly charged performances. Performances: December 15 - 24, 2006, M - F @ 8pm, Sat @ 3 & 8 pm, Sun @ 3 & 7 pm CSV Flamboyan Theater 107 Suffolk Street New York, NY 10002 Tickets for ICHIDA NYUKON are available at www.theatermania.com or (212) 352-3101.
