COCKFIGHT started as a monthly DJ night in Brooklyn, NY, founded by me and my friends Mr. Vacation a/k/a Ron Mexico, and Forest Love. We started in October 2004 at a bar called Last Exit, in Brooklyn Heights. It was a fun time with our friends, and their friends, and some bachelorette parties, post-wedding receptions, birthdays, and afterparties with a constant barrage of great records. We couldn't believe it.
We ended up with the sort of party where we could play anything we wanted and get everyone there on our level. Hard '70s rock as it sharpened into metal, garage rock, funk and soul and its ascent into disco, mod sounds, punk, psychedelia, power pop, dub reggae, hip hop, goth, heavy folk, glam, broken-hearted country, progressive rock, soundtracks, AM gold and FM snow, tropicalia, shoegaze, and anything with a good break in it. We also jammed the points in between. So that's what we play.
Today COCKFIGHT exists twice a month on TWO COASTS.
Second Friday of every month at THE CASANOVA LOUNGE (527 Valencia btw 16th and 17th Sts., San Francisco, in the Mission) w/ DJs Forest Love, Savage Damage, and guests, 9p-2a
Third Friday of every month at DADDY'S BAR (437 Graham btw Frost & Richardson), Williamsburg, Brooklyn w/ DJs Doug Mosurock, Mr. Vacation, and guests, 10p-4a
