Usually the first way that children express their creativity is by singing, chanting, and performing game songs, handclap rhymes, jump rope rhymes, and other types of playground rhymes. In addition to their role in helping children develop & reinforce creativity, performing playground rhymes help children learn & strengthen important social & cognitive skills. Besides all of that, playground rhymes can be fun to read, to hear, to perform, and also fun to watch being performed. Unfortunately, these children's rhymes & and their performances usually get very little attention and respect from adults. I want to help change that. Join me in celebrating the performances of playground rhymes and in showcasing other ways that children express their creativity.
Visit my website COCOJAMS for a collection of multiple versions of children's playground rhymes and singing games. COCOJAMS also has a collection of fraternity & sorority chants, civil rights songs, 19th century African American dance songs, and more. Most of these examples come from visitors' submissions.
Check out my blog COCOJAMS VIDEO LIST for a listing of videos by month that have been featured on this page.
Also, visit my Myspace friends pages to see examples of people throughout the world being creative and being socially conscious.
In addition, visit this website for information on Akan adinkra symbols, including the sankofa symbol that represents Cocojams Myspace.
Until further notice, I will not be posting to MySpace and will not be accepting any new friends. I'll leave August's videos on this page.
Thanks to all the friends that I have met on this site.

COCOJAMS is a multi-page website that I launched way back in 2001. Most of Cocojams.com's pages provide examples of & commentary about contemporary English language children's playground rhymes & cheers. (By "contemporary" I mean from the 1950s on). Most of the examples of children's rhymes and cheers that are posted on COCOJAMS come from children, teens, and adults who have visited that website.
Other Cocojams.com pages focus on fraternity & sorority chants, military cadences, 19th century & ealier African American dance songs, African American civil rights songs, and Mardi Gras Indian songs. COCOJAMS also has a page of links to YouTube gospel song videos. In addition to all this, Cocojams.com also has a page of blogging & text messaging terms and pages of information on the origins & meanings of selected personal names that are considered to be non-standard in the United States.
Cocojams Myspace will feature videos of children performing playground rhymes & singing games, singing other songs, and playing musical insttruments. I hope that you will enjoy viewing the videos that are showcased on this page.
In addition to the videos that are featured on this page, I hope that visitors to this page take time to view the pages of my MYSPACE FRIENDS for these creative and socially conscious people & groups serve as role models for children & teens.
I also hope that you will visit & support COCOJAMS!
