Cocomama is an international group of women based in New York City. Originally from as far flung places as Cuba, France, Argentina, Israel, Puerto Rico and Wisconsin, they play "hard-hitting", original Latin music deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean rhythms. Inspired by their diverse musical and cultural backgrounds, their music is influenced by jazz, World, Afro-Cuban, and South American musical traditions.
Members of the band have played with such jazz and Latin music legends as Abbey Lincoln, Betty Carter, Sheila E.,Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Machito and Tito Puente.
Formed in 2007, Cocomama already has a loyal New York following. The group is now gaining a national audience following their performances at the Spoleto Music Festival in South Carolina and the Michigan Womyn's Festival.
