A multi-instrumentalist/sometimes DJ/producer, Coco plays the cello, the drums, and guitar but what really makes her stand out is her distinctive, vulnerable yet commanding vocals.
Internationally, her songs have been added to DJ sets & remixed by cutting edge electronic artists/DJ's -- Andy Hunter ( Nettwerk) and Doug Ross ( Rubiks Records) from the UK as well as stateside by Noah Argeanas ( MSM Recordings). Her most recent releases are remixes of her song DUB ft. Martin Luther King, Jr. from Twisted Circuits in Canada and will be available on Beatport and other digital download sites. The song "Higher Power" was selected for the CD Compilation, Hope: Love is the Answer, produced by Grammy Award winning Producer Steve Zuckerman. Most recently she was the featured musical guest for the innovative talk show, BRAND U.
After working with BRAND U, a new project was inspired & formed by her and Taylor O'Connor called LUCERE™. This new approach and fresh production by UK DJ/Producer Doug Ross aka Kubiks has already attained worldwide digital distribution via DeepLife Records and will be featured on the t.v. show as well as the RadioBlog Show for Brand U beginning in Fall 2009. Great things are happening and they are happening fast!
Her first CD, TRANSPARENT received enormous support from NOVA (National Organization for Victim Assistance). A former crime victim herself, she welcomed the opportunity to turn injustice into justice through music. "Something Beautiful" from that CD was in episode 521 of The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson."D’Chase” was awarded “Honorable Mention” in the John Lennon Songwriting Competition (2006)."DUB" was awarded -Best Electronica @ the New Mexico Music Awards '08.
She most recently received recognition for her song "Hard Time to Shine" from the 2009 Billboard Song Contest. This song was selected for Denmark's RADIO HOLSTEBRO . It was one of 4 songs selected to be played off of the radio-promo NCM disc and the only self-produced/Indie release as well as for Sonic Vogue Records' (UK), Sound of Style compilation disc. The other artists/songs selected were major label artists.
Many instrumentals are in various music libraries for film/tv placements. Also, her instrumental compositions can be found in theDRIVETV show airing in over 300,000 homes worldwide. The Drive TV is currently being aired on NRB, WLMB, TCT, MAC3TV, and Cornerstone TV in the Fall.
Coco is constantly writing & recording songs; dividing her time between Los Angeles & her studio known as "The Gold Mine" located on 10 acres outside of Santa Fe, NM. She continues to focus and hone her craft of songwriting in genres of pop and electronic music & also holds a Specialist Certificate for "Producing Music w/ Abelton Live" from Berkleemusic.
Reviews and Recommendations~
"Now for the good find. I had gotten there early, and heard Coco O'Connor do her set. She's got a rare and fascinating voice, clearly echoing elements of Kate Bush and other avant garde artists. The music was engaging, a bit ethereal, and, to my ear, perfect for the style. Of course I'm biased -- we share very similar musical influences (including, per her myspace, Peter Gabriel). If you like this kind of thing, check out her site and go to a show." Oz- Chapman Stick/Bass- Patterns Form
“Disc Two begins with “Shooting Stars” a simple elegant piano piece before the tempo takes an upturn with “Smooth”. “That’s Sexy” is sexy while ballad “Hard Time to Shine” quietly shines.” - Audio Juice Magazine (2008) Excerpt taken from the review of Sonic Vogue Records ( UK) , Sound of Style compilation CD- Coco's song " Hard Time to Shine" was on this CD
