CODEPINK Campus Action Network at UCF is an local group for national CODEPINK. CODEPINK is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq, stop new wars, and redirect our resources into healthcare, education and other life-affirming activities. We reject the Bush administration's fear-based politics that justify violence, and instead calls for policies based on compassion, kindness and a commitment to international law. With an emphasis on joy and humor, CODEPINK women and men seek to activate, amplify and inspire a community of peacemakers through creative campaigns and a commitment to non-violence.
As CODEPINK UCF we are dedicated to educating students about the war Iraq and letting them know that they can help to stop this war. We at CODEPINK UCF are anti-war but emphasize that we are pro-soldier and pro-peace.

Orlando-PLEASE help get THE PEOPLE POWER HOUR to 104.1 FM
There has been a clear void in the weeknight spot from 7-10pm on 104. 1 FM for quite some time. With the diverse programming of Real Radio WTKS, it's hard to understand why.
It's just as well though, because this Monday, Jim Phillips of the Phillips Phile [3pm to 7pm] said the People People Power Hour might be a good fit. It isn't up to Jim to promote our show, so it's encouraging to know the Phile endorses us. Unfortunately, we can't expect Mr Phillips to pitch our show to Clear Channel management.
That's where our listeners come in. Those who regularly listen know the sky is the limit and they should be e-mailing WTKS yesterday!!! As we invite new listeners to consider their opinions of the show, we'd also like them help, too.

Radio in Orlando is under siege. If the recent cuts, trades, & restrictions aren't an indicator of the times we're in, then look to the FCC. They applaud conglomeration and heavy oversight while they watch diversity die. Though we live in the digital age, much is marginalized. Even in 2008, some people still don't have access to the internet's wealth of potential. Others simply may not care about the blogings & yourtube. As our communities grow into the 21rst century, a closed door/open camera structure is more dangerous then all of our fears combined.
Open communication is indispensable!
Every so often we'll interface with a sheet of paper that has predetermined selections and we end-up with another round of poli-ticks. Recession is here kids, but so are the possibilities. For simplicity, our nation is in a mess.
For reasons our fore fathers couldn't dream about, we're in a mess.
The only bubble from this mess Central Florida enjoys is the one around Orlando's City Hall. Take a few hops & skips up the Beanstalk of Greater Interests and we'll find those who promote the outrageous actions in Tallahassee & Washington. Damn it all if they can tell us what kind of porn to not enjoy.
The People Power Hour with George Crosley on 1190 AM is a clear & open show on Saturday mornings that lets callers engage guests on any manner of topics. Airing at from 11am to noon, it's a progressive format that's growing as a unique forum for social justice & local interest. Guests range from Liberal Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich to local conservative Doug Guetzloe.

May 1, 2008: Reclaim the Streets in protest of the war!

On May Day, the international worker's holiday, longshore workers in the US are organizing to shut down major ports on the west coast in protest of the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. You can learn more about their action here: http://sbindymedia. org/for_workers_strikes_against_the_war
In solidarity with workers shutting down shipping lanes, we will shut down the street and hold a Reclaim the Streets party to send a strong message: Until the war ends, there will be no business as usual!

Bring toys, games, costumes, art supplies, banners, and other implements of merrymaking!
