CODOFIL is furthermore empowered to “do any and all things necessary to accomplish the development, utilization, and preservation of the French language as found in Louisiana for the educational, cultural, economic and touristic benefit of the state." The name was subsequently changed to the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana. Today, over 57,000 students take French in Louisiana schools K-12, of those, over 2,700 are in French Immersion. There are over 360 French teachers not only from Louisiana and the US, but also from France, Belgium, Canada, Africa, and Haiti.
