If you think you or someone you know would make for a perfect musical guest on a future Coffee and Rhetoric, feel free to message us. This is just as much your show as it is ours, if not more!

Coffee and Rhetoric is a live weekly talk show in TACOMA. Each week, we bring together two diverse and intriguing Tacoma characters who may not neccesarily see things eye to eye, and hold an open discussion on the subjects that matter in our city. A new musical guest will join the show each week both as a co-host, and to perform a song or two as the mood strikes.... We'll be serving up a cup of stimulating conversation with a lump of edge and asking you to participate. The idea is to identify problems, conflicts, miscommunications, or new ideas, and bring out those who can do something about them as guests in an attempt to find answers and solutions and just stimulate the cerebral cortexes of this fine city. Discussions are open ended and audience members are encouraged to particapate in and direct the conversation. But don't worry, this is most certainly no City-Hall meeting.

Save the MLK housing shelter in Tacoma! Solidarity needed at Tacoma City Council Meeting
Start: 2008/05/06 - 5:00pm
End: 2008/05/06 - 7:30pm
Location:
Tacoma City Council Chambers
Poor People's Solidarity Needed:
Attend Tacoma City Council on May 6 and let them know the King Shelter is a valuable community resource!
You might have heard the rumor that the city (under pressure from downtown condo developers) is planning to shut down the Martin Luther King Jr. Homeless Shelter in Hilltop. It sadly is true. The shutdown is due primarily to the new condo development across Court E alley, whose rich tenants have decided the folks on the street don't make a pretty enough view from their windows. The condo's developer (supposedly "BRC Associates," a non-profit) is suing the city in order to shut it down for good.
If you'd like to help prevent the King Shelter from being shutdown, please attend the City Council Meeting.
Tuesday, May 6
5 PM (meetup at 4, if you can)
Council Chambers,
First floor of the Tacoma Municipal Building
747 Market Street
Community members are asked to share their opinion on why the King Shelter is a valuable resource and to add the power of numbers to our cause.

I am touring back from LA to Seattle, and would love to play YOU in Tacoma, I hold a special place in my heart for the Coffee and Rhetoric folk, and had a great time playing at Cutters Point last summer.
Recognizing that careful and strategic help from outside business can be helpful if aligned with community vision and design, I cannot help but offer this applicable warning to our next coffee and rhetoric theme about big box "chains".
ps: Kudos to UrbanXChange for their contribution to downtown as evidenced in this video
