Coffey grew up in Pentecostal Church in Bangs, TX. He got saved at the young age of 10 years old, but made Jesus the Lord of his life at 16 years of age. Coffey preached the "5th Quarter" services to his peers while in high school! Seeing many of his classmates get saved. At 18, Coffey was involved in a prison ministry where he would go in, sing, and preach to incarcerated people that were seeking and searching for a second chance at life and a new life in Christ. He preached in over 15 different prisons in 7 different states. All before he turning 19 years of age. Coffey turned down many basketball scholarships to state universities attend Howard Payne University (TABC) and get a degree in ministry. While at HPU, he touched a guitar for the first time in 2002 and hasn't put it down since. Coffey began learning Vineyard worship and traditional hymns at a gifted pace. He would sing and play and the dorm would fill up and the college bible study groups started asking him to lead their groups in worship. Within 3 months, Coffey was asked to open for the likes Open of Eden, Mercy Me, Skillet, and others for the college festivals. He would sing the National Anthem at basketball games, then do "jump ball". His blend of traditional hymns, contemporary worship, and his gospel soul make worship valid and relevant for many congregations. He got his Bachelor of Arts degree in Practical Theology with a Spanish specialization. Coffey lived in Nuevo Leon, Mexico and attended Tec de Monterrey for a summer course to learn Spanish and become fluent. Moving to Tulsa, OK in 2003, he started leading worship at Real Life Community Church. He served there for 1 year. Coffey got a position opportunity to serve at Calvary Chapel Canyon Country outside of Los Angeles, CA. He worked there until the church got on its feet by training a couple of people in the church to lead the songs. Coffey is educated in ministry, qualified with a degree, a heart to reach people.
Cofféy was born and raised 5 miles outside of Bangs, TX with a population of 1100 people. Early on you could tell Cofféy was born to perform. He would stand in the bed of his dad's farm truck and perform for the passing cars on the road in front of his house. He began singing in church at age 6 and fell in love with sports as he got older. He grew to 6’5 and was a stand-out in Texas High School Basketball. Though he would get technical fouls for dancing on the court after a dunk during the game or for leading the crowd in song while at the free throw line, many knew he was different from other kids.
Cofféy attended college and in 2002 while on a basketball trip with the university decided he wanted to learn to play an instrument. Buying a beginner guitar book and borrowing a guitar from a friend, he started to play. After learning only few chords, writing songs became an obsession. Coffey walked away from his first love, basketball, to focus on music. He then got the courage to test his talent with the best in the business and moved to Los Angeles.
Without knowing anybody Cofféy started crashing auditions, movie shoots, and singing in malls until security came. "If you don’t believe in yourself, nobody else will." Cofféy would win open mic nights around the city and won a talent contest that gave free studio time. He made an 8 song demo and started street performing to sell it. Crowds would fill the street and the police would shut the concerts down.
Cofféy has since performed all around the country, doing over 100 dates in 7 months, and finished 4 albums. The albums include: Southern Man, Me and You, The Inspiration Vol.1, and Worship Unplugged 1. Coffey is a firm prophet of DIY (do It Yourself). He uses his computer each week to make videos teaching his fans how to play his songs online, and making cool remixes of popular songs with freestyle raps and breakdowns of leagendary stories.
His talent has ranged from street performing in Santa Monica, rodeos in Texas, and exclusive parties in the Hamptons. Cofféy is an artist of the people.
His music is almost as dynamic as his personality.
