About Coin of the Realm Orchestra Гроші країни оркестра
Гроші Країни Оркестра (Coin of the Realm Orchestra) embodies the true spirit of traditional Ukrainian folk music. The band joined together in 2005 on the premise of keeping the music of the old culture alive. Zach Konowalchuk, classically trained violinist and great grandson of the relatively unknown violinist Vasyl Shalay, brings to life folk melodies transcribed from old recordings. It is suspected that his style is eerily reminiscent (although no one alive today can confirm this) of great grandpa Shalay, who was often summoned to play kolomyjkas at neighborhood zabavas. “Zahraj, Shalay!” they used to yell (so Baba said). Accompanied by orchestra archivist and principal kobza-ist in training David Konowalchuk, as well as whatever other various and sundry mendicant musicians happen to be readily on hand, Гроші Країни Оркестра indefatigably performs a conglomeration of kozachoks, kolomyjkas, waltzes, polkas, and the occasional oberek. They must be heard to be believed!

Nothing like a bit of Uki music played on the old 'screpka' hey!!? Keep doing what you do best boys.Making old folk like us feel nostalgic for the 'good old times' Food,Dance,Horilka and Uki women. cheers. Aussieuke.
My boyfriend and I enjoyed listening to you guys play sunday in newport. You hooked us with some great tunes for our travels along the shore, Thanks. We sure would like to catch you guys again sometime. Keep up nice work!
Yep, I'm going to be living here for a while. I'm not sure if I'll be at the tattoo shop tomarrow now. If you play on the bayfront this weekend I'll probably see you. :)
I don't work Wednesday!:( But, I will be at Crossover Tattoo painting and hanging up my photography if you want to come say hello...aren't you moving soon?
Yeah, I'll probably be up in newport quite a bit the following year though, I'll have to listen to play at the bayfront between my classes or something if you are still doing that.
No you're probably thinking of a different cook. His dad is a lawyer, although my boyfriend is a musician though but he doesn't play publicly.
That's the really cool that you do what you love to do everyday. I wish I could do that. I suppose I do but I wish I could do it ALL day. one more year in that tiny little school. I've actually been working at my grades now. I figure it's the only way to get out of there haha. I'll probably stick around for a year after i graduate, take the core classes at OCCC save some cash I guess. I love the coast, the typical waldport lifestyle disappoints me though.
Things are going well for me. I've been in phoenix for a month. It's quite warm. I've watched more Television here in the past month than I have all year.
Me too. Especially when I have to walk in it. I was often tempted to stop by or give you a call while I was in town, but I figured you've probably been very busy, since our keeping in touch has been less and less! Everything has been alright for me, thanks. In fact, I'm pretty excited. Bryn and Haley are getting married this summer! So anything new with you, or Coin of the Realm? -Caitlin
