This is a tribute page to Co. Jones (a.k.a. Company Jones) - an alternative rock outfit out of Miami, FL.
The band is no more, but the music lives on. On this MySpace.com page are four songs of Co. Jones debut CD, "Private Highway."
Co. Jones was part of the Miami, South Beach and Ft. Lauderdale rock scene in the early 90s -- before Miami Beach became 'SoBe' and the club scene killed local rock and roll.
Co. Jones frequented such venues as Washington Square, Uncle Sam's Music Cafe, Cactus Cantina, Churchill's, Tobacco Road, Plus 5 Lounge, Rosebud's, Red Room and for the right price, might just show up and raise some hell at a friend's house party.
The strength of Co. Jones was its energetic live performances. Consistantly playing live music venues in South Florida helped Co. Jones build up a solid local following.
Their single "Open Your Soul" received some airplay on the now defunct WSHE 103.5 FM ("She's only rock and roll...") and Co. Jones was slated to participate on Washington Square's "Live at The Square" compilation in late 1993. The project was shelved when the club shut down due to the expansion of South Beach.
Co. Jones eventually entered the studio in fall 1993 to record "Private Highway" -- engineered by local Miami producer, Jose Menendez... no relation to the infamous murderer.
11 tracks were recorded and six made the final demo. "Private Highway" was released in late 1993. The tracks were:
[1] Private Highway - 3:36
[2] Jane's Baby - 5:06
[3] Open Your Soul - 4:42
[4] They Couldn't See (Let Me Go) - 5:02
[5] California Green - 3:44
[6] Leonard - 4:58
[7] Where You Goin? - 3:29 [Bonus Track]
Recorded tracks which didn't make the final cut were "Deja Vu", "Mississippi", "Invisible Hippie" and "Going Home".
Years prior, an earlier, rough demo contained several original songs which Co. Jones worked into their live show.
Long-time fans and friends of the band might recall, "Live For The Day", "What's It All About", "Journey Into Space", "Wounded Knee" and "Regret."
Co. Jones took their road show west - to San Diego, CA. With San Diego predicted as "the next Seattle" in the early 90s, it seemed like a logical move for three 19-year olds and their 'old man' bass player.
The band lasted a good half a year in San Diego, playing such venues as Dreamstreet, Spirit Club, Soma and Chillers (now Canes.)
Co. Jones found their groove and were getting more aggressive in their songwriting, upon trekking west.
New live staples such as "Joshua's View" and "Mister No One" got the crowd moving, whereas well-crafted, slower tunes like "Fractal Zone" and "Honor" were the perfect way to slow things down and show the band's diversity.
Co. Jones called it quits four years after its inception. All attempted to make music after Co. Jones - but no project had that same energy, chemistry and vibe.
Please enjoy these songs. When you get sick of them (or upon request) we'll rotate out other tunes from "Private Highway" on this page.
Please feel free to download the songs you dig. All we ask are for some comments on this page if you're into the music. A lot of heart, soul, passion, angst, laughter, booze, smoke, meatball wraps and whatnot fueled the fire which was Company Jones. We hope you like it.
Rock on. Do it for Lillo and make Dirty Frank proud.
