The Colburn Orchestra

The COLBURN ORCHESTRA is the flagship ensemble of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, a division of the Colburn School. For over 57 years, the Colburn School has been dedicated to offering the highest quality performing arts education to young people as early as possible in their lives. Since 2003, the School has also provided exceptionally talented students the opportunity to continue their musical performance training through accredited degree, diploma, and certificate programs. Colburn Conservatory students have received top prizes in the Bösendorfer International Piano Competition, the World Piano Competition, and the Lutoslawski International Cello Competition among others, and members of the Colburn Orchestra have recently won positions in major orchestras including the San Francisco Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the Fort Worth Symphony. Led by its conductor and music director Yehuda Gilad, the Colburn Orchestra made its Walt Disney Concert Hall debut with violinist Joshua Bell in 2006/07 season.

The 2007/08 season includes the Orchestra's debut at Orange County's spectacular Segerstrom Concert Hall with pianist Vladimir Feltsman as part of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County's Beethoven mini-series. Other guest artists slated for this season include Leon Fleisher, Pinchas Zukerman, and Amanda Forsyth as well as world premieres by composers Andrew Norman and Henri Lazarof. Additionally, in a project sponsored by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Colburn Orchestra will participate in conducting master classes with the renowned Jorma Panula, culminating in two joint concerts with musicians from the Sibelius Academy of Finland.
