Taking their name from a classic Porter Wagoner song, The Cold Hard Facts of Life play honky tonk country music in the tradition of singers like Buck Owens, George Jones, and Faron Young.
Led by Ben McAllister, of Atlanta's National Grain, CHFL features some longtime fixtures of Austin music as well as some relative newcomers: Scott Blesener (Martin Paul & The Jaded Lovers, Redneck Sherriff) on fiddle and Brian Tomlin (Selenese, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness) on bass, Ralph Noyes on drums and Jeff Plaisance on lead guitar (both from Salmonella Rex).
Praise for National Grain:
"These sweeping dance tunes and country-rock stompers come highly recommended" - Paste Magazine
"Twangs with authority. One of Atlanta's best country flavored outfits." - Atlanta Journal Constitution
"National Grain plays real country music. Not pop masquerading as alt-country or adult contemporary pretending to be Nashville country, but honest-to-goodness, tears-in-your-beer country music. National Grain's self-titled debut swings and burns, from the blurry disorientation of "City Lights" to the brokenhearted "Whiskey, Wine, and Beer," with poetic, true-life confessions that belie the music's frequently uptempo beat." - Creative Loafing
"National Grain is true blue honky tonk." - Performer Magazine
